Goodsex v Sexcrime

GO's 1984 Newspeak came to mind as I choked on my cornflakes this morning reading about the $2bn Fertility package and Assisted Reproduction Technology !

"Goodsex is any form of sex considered acceptable by the Party; specifically, this refers only to married heterosexual sex for the exclusive purpose of providing new children for the Party. All other forms of sex are considered sexcrime."

And yeah, besides laughing and agreeing with the 1984 reference, talking about the inability to see the forest for the trees...

And this is where the current argument of 377A is going to lead to also

There is a friend on my FB - I've never met him but he seems to be a smart, well educated sinky lawyer who is married and presumably not taking it up the backside and not sticking it up his wife's backside. Every second flaming post of his is about how cruel 377A is and how it should be abolished. Makes me freak sick. I don't want my beautfiul son growing up in a country where evil old men think they can try to stick their willies into him and get away with it. I LIKE living in a country where the flaming faggotry of the west is illegal. I LIKE being able to discriminate legally against people who violate the natural ways of sex.

Fry meme
OSOD is a staunch Christian, who strongly believes in what the Bible says about homosexuality. He is serious.

Good thing Singapore has laws to outlaw gays to keep the reproduction rate high! Just like those laws against streetwalkers in Geylang, Drugs in the west, etc...

I know that (the first part), but you can be against something without expressing those beliefs like a douche. Pretty sure the bible doesn't ban that.

To actively live a homosexual life goes directly against the teaching of Christ and the Bible. I'm not a hypocrite. I don't hate gays at all, but I detest those who push the notion that faggotry and buggery are normal and should be accepted. What next? Bestiality and pedophilia are normal? The gheys will argue that allowing 377A (and eventually ghey marriage) will not do this but if we allow the norm to shift because of the gay minority then the pedo/beastial and polygamous minority should logically be afforded the same liberties.
Love the sinner, hate the sin.

Not sure how my thread got sidetracked by a Christian bigot. But hey - you can have your view. I'm not a practising Christian (sorry !) but was raised as such. When I was old enough to make up my own mind about religion I realised what a load of old hypocritical nonsense they ALL are. Be your own man and live a live based on strong personal values. Don't swallow the dogma that these religious leaders spout out. Killing and murdering law abiding citizens who happen to be 'non-believers' - please !! Telling people they can't do this and they can't do that in the name of religion. Absolute madness.
If it matters to you - fine - but like homosexuality, keep it to yourself, practise (legally) what you believe in and don't force on the rest of society.
We all need to be a bit more tolerant of each other.

It's wandered somewhat off topic of course, but this thread does raise an interesting theological issue.
I read the Bible in its entirety many years ago in connection with my degree course (it's difficult fully to appreciate the "medieval mindset" if you don't). Express references to homosexuality (the active practise of, or otherwise) are surprisingly few and far between.
I will assume that one of the Bible teachings to which OSOD refers include Lev. 18:22, which is the famous bit about "men not lying with other men". The problem with Leviticus is that the same chapter also prohibits, inter alia: mixing fabrics in clothing; messy hair; withholding wages overnight; and eating fat. Let's leave Leviticus aside for now, shall we?
What does the New Testament (excluding the Gospels) have to say on the matter? I would agree that Paul of Tarsus, in several of his letters, expressly condemns homosexual practices (although not everybody agrees on this point). That said, many of Paul's views - particularly those relating to women - are now rejected by modern Christians. And - Damascene conversion aside - he never met Jesus, of course.
So - what do the Gospels say? Nothing whatsoever, that's what. Which might lead one to the conclusion that either (a) Jesus never mentioned it (perhaps it wasn't one of his top priorities) or (b) if he did, none of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John bothered to write it down.
Matthew did write down Jesus' thoughts on discrimination though. You can find those at Matthew 7: 1-2.
I have no idea if God hates fags, if he exists at all, or if S377A repeal will leave the streets of Singapore teeming with emancipated necrophiliacs. But I do occasionally think that homophobes do tend to
protest a little too much.
Kind regards,
Sarah

Repealing 377A will not magically make straight men gay.

No, but it might just have a liberating effect on the possibly 00,000's of closet gays that are leading a heterosexual life for fear of the condemnation (like Rock Hudson did for so many years).
