I have a question on expat parent volunteers for P1 admition for local schools.

If expat parent will volunteer in the local school of the choice over 40 hours per year, does it bring the application of their kids to Phase 2B?

I did not find any info on this...

in this case if failing P3 and not getting the spot in the school of your choice, you can be in the waiting list.

- can you list a child to a number of local schools?

- what is the process of changing school during the year from one local school to another? Do you pay another set of donations?

not possible.

By the way, I thought MOE has said no more Parent Voluneer

No, only one school. You can't put your child name across all school of your choice.

Apply and wait.
Subjected to the another school whether they have seat.

What kind of donation are you referring?
Are you saying by giving money in the name of donation and get the things you want?
It don't work here.

after phase 3 I can get kids listed to any number of schools. During the phase 3 only one school.

"2. Donation to the Education Fund

A foreign student is requested to make biennial donations (that is, once every two years) to the Education Fund of the Ministry of Education if his/her application to study in Singapore is approved.

Foreign students are requested to make the biennial donations of S$1,000 within the period stated in the Letter of Donation.

Thereafter, foreign students are requested to make the donation in advance every two years. The biennial donations are requested from foreign students of all nationalities who seek admission to schools, junior colleges and centralised institute for the academic year beginning in January each year. The biennial donations replace the previous donation rates ($3,000 for Malaysians and $5,000 for other nationalities) which were requested once at the primary education level and once at the secondary education level.

Foreign students whose parents are Singapore Citizens, Singapore Permanent Residents, or holders of work passes (including P1, P2, Q1, S, R and other work passes), who are admitted from 1 Jan 2001 onwards, are also requested to make the biennial donations to the Education Fund.

The donations to the Education Fund are eligible for tax-exemption and the official receipts will be made in favour of either the donor or the foreign student. Can you share the site that you quoted the donation from? I've never heard of that before today and I have many friends with kids in local school who are not Singaporean!

This document is posted in a number of sites in Singapore (forums, blogs, expat related like this one) none of them being governmental.
The only documents remotely related and on the gov. site are with respect to ASEAN Scholarships and from 2007 (seems not longer available).

Probably because they have neglected to update their sites. I think this whole donation thing was scrapped around 3~5 years ago when the policies regarding Balloting phases were changed and they realized that the system, just like a lot of PR, were being abused. But in this case by locals as well. Including the renting of property within the 1 km circle in order to be in Phase 1, but actually owning a home outside of the area, which meant they would have been in Phase II or worse.

In the 5 years my daughter attended local school I was never asked (nor was it even hinted) for a gift. This is false information and should be highlighted on this board as such.
