The joys of moving; Quick Questions;

1. Any moving company recommendations from SF / Bay Area?

2. Should we bring a good bed and mattress? We're torn on bringing our 'stuff' like our TV, stereo system etc.

I think you'd be better served without the survey.

Take the mattress if you're quite tall, otherwise buy one here, it won't go through a month of being kept in storage and the mold that could ensue.

Sell your electronics or put them in storage and get new stuff here - you'll have to have step-down transformers to use them here anyway.

I would avoid any moving companies with US cities as their name based on a variety of feedback.

The weather here is also humid that means mold will eat away everything.
Buy new stuff here if you can.

Who is "We" and how much "stuff"? I moved alone, and sold almost everything. This might be harder for a family of four. How long are you going to be here?

Don't bring any electronics. For everything else, it depends how long you'll be here IMO. Everything in Singapore is low quality and over priced (and I do mean everything), but it's still better to sell/give away your stuff at home and just buy really cheap replacements here unless this is a one-way (forever) move.

Thanks for the responses. 'We' are a couple in our 30's and plan to be in Singapore for about 5 years. I've read a lot about the mold in the forums and that's a good point.

I guess what we're pondering is bringing things such as dehydrators, juicing machines, blenders, espresso machines (we have converters for all of these already).

Stereo TV and computer things we'll definately get in Singapore.

Who pays the shipping charges (door-to-door, this way and back)?

Unless your convertor is very heavy duty, it won't last. I wouldn't bring it. Most convertors are designed for very occasional use. The devices you mention are generally very high-draw appliances, and will burn out your convertor (or its own motor) pretty quickly.
