Singapore Expats

Hello,
I've read a lot of posts and none seem to be exactly the same as mine.
My boyfriend is moving to singapore for work. He is getting an Employment Pass and I am hoping to get a Dependent Pass.

We are not married but we are in a civil union in France called "PACS". Also I am American and he is French.

I need to be able to work in Singapore but my company (which has an office there) can't sponsor me. So I want to get the DP through my boyfriend's pass.

The Guidemesingapore website seems to say the DP is just for spouses but I am hoping the recognize civil unions (as a note we are a heterosexual couple).

(I'm not suggesting you're a same sex couple by the way , but the issue of civil partnership and so on comes up in the above threads).

Thank you. I had read both of those threads - everything I find on civil partnerships seems to involve same sex couples, which is why I asked. From what I read singapore seems pretty strict about not giving DP to same sex partners so I wasn't sure if it would be easier for a hetero. couple in a civil union...

If you are not married, you will probably only qualify for a LTSVP. I'm on an EP and I was able to bring my long term partner here on the LTSVP. But you won't be able to work with type of visa.

Something else to try, I'd suggest you do a search on these terms:
'common law marriage'
in the search box, above/right.

Your situation might fall into such a definition, in which case it has been discussed before, though it was a year or two back.

My experience exactly.... now I'm in the situation where if I want her to work, I have to marry her! Makes a cost-benefit analysis EXTREMELY tough

About time Polygamy was recognized as a legitimate form of marriage (outside of Islam). To the OP, my sig other and I are in a long term relationship (we're from the US). When he moved to Sing, we had to provide documentation as being "common law" spouses. I then could only apply for an LTVP, which did NOT allow me to work….AT ALL….not even for a company outside of Singapore (as an online, remote employee). In addition, as part of the LTVP application process I had to provide a resume and documentation of ALL higher education. This was 2 years ago….I hope you're able to get your DP, although unless you have skills that fit a certain important niche in Singapore, I fear you may have a rough go….Good luck to you -
