what is a good price for new business to do a website?
Just a normal corporate website to introduce company and product.

It's like saying "How much is a condo?" the question is so wide and depends wholly on your expectations.

If you want a good professional job done and go to a good Web designer to do multi-page with all kinds of bells and whistles, don't expect to pay $250! Good multi-skilled Web developers work for around $600 a day on contract, so bear this in mind!

my standards are very low. i paid about $200 a page (as eagle astutely noted for me) after bargaining.

$200 per page is pretty good. It all depends on the quality that you're going to get and the skill levels are going to vary greatly.

I've recently got lucky with a local guy who hand codes everything and he does pretty good work; although sometimes it's hard to get him to meet a deadline.

With web design, I think to a certain extent you get what you pay for.

I got ours done for less than $500. But the web designer was a newbie and hungry for work. You might get hit with a bigger bill if you ask for bells and whistles.

If quality is no issue then you can get it done in about 200-300 but if you really want something to represent your company's identity on the web in a good way you should look fwd to spending something between 1500-2000.

It really depends on what sort of website you are making, i spent US$1000 for creation.

I spend a lot on hosting too, around US$30+ with email.

I'll be glad if anyone shares with me more web designers of budget with quality.

If you pass your web guy all the building blocks, i.e. house style details, visuals, copy, etc, then having a basic WordPress website made nowadays can cost as little as a few S$100, yes.

Of course, having a website is where things merely start, because unless you SEO it, just having a website online is like having a shop in the middle of the Sahara desert - no one will know you're there.

Sure, you'll tell your existing customers all about your new site. And even those that found you in the Yellow Pages or met you at that expo or those peeps you passed your biz card to, all of these potential customers will be referred to your new site, which is good. But then, they already knew about you, you're just sending them to your site through existing means.

In this scenario, certainly in terms of additional revenues, the site's benefit will be minimal.

To really leverage your online presence, especially if your service or product works on a global scale, you'll need to make your site findable to potential clients, customers, buyers, etc. who know nothing about you yet, have never heard of you but are looking for your product or service.

Once you're easily findable in Google, having a website is like having a big banner flying 24/7. And if you have a web-shop with a decent Google ranking, things really get interesting, because you'll be generating cash while you sleep, literally.

In other words, if you pay S$300 for your new website, expect the minimal result scenario, because that web guy isn't going to bother with the meta data or SEO.

Online, just as in the real world, you get what you pay for.

Things to consider when getting a quotation for a web.

1. Who pay for the domain name.
2. Who pay for the hosting space.
3. What is the price per page or price for the project.
4. How long they provide free bug fixing
5. If I need some change after initial development. What is the rate of charge.
6. Who provide the text content (writer charges).
7. Who provide (or pay for the) the photos (digital media charges).
8. Is there any documentation they provide (otherwise if you need a change, you must contact them always)?
9. Do they provide email facility with hosting?
10. Is this development search engine friendly
11. Who has the copy right of the" source code" and the "content"
12. Can this site properly show in all common web browsers
13. Does it take so long time to load the pages.
14. What is the max bandwidth provide by the hosting company. (otherwise in the middle of the month users cannot access your web site because no more bandwidth )
