Singapore Expats

We applied for PR in 2012, approaching 12 months ago now.

I am European, educated in Europe to Masters level, work for the government.

My wife, Filipino, educated to Degree level, works for a major MNC here in Singapore at a VP level.

Married for nearly 8 years, we have been in Singapore over 5 years now, have 2 children born here (1 boy 1 girl) and earn over $16k a month before bonuses. We have bought a condo that's due to TOP next year ($1m+).

And yet our PR application is pending. For almost a year. No call for more information or more papers. Anyone got any ideas why? And what should we do next?

Don't have a clue. I've seen apps go as long a 15 months before. but your situation seems ideal so I'm not sure what the reason might be. I'd almost be tempted to try to contact them to see if its stuck in the system somehow.

Mine is pending for almost 2 years now. There is nothing you can do about it.

2 years!?!? Have you followed it up with MOM? I think 1 year is unacceptable, but 2?

Mine is approaching into 9 months.

MOM!? I think you meant ICA.
No i didn't, they contacted me few months ago for my payslips , never heard a word ever since.

don't bother no body knows , its a variable situation here some get approved in a month others rejected after 15 months.

Yes, meant ICA - so used to dealing with MOM for work passes etc!

I may try and get an update from ICA next time I have a day off. Although I am not hopeful of any meaningful reply.....

They are only giving PRs to Malaysian Chinese. They should just stop this PR by application scheme and instead go to Malaysia and catch hold of all the Chinese they can find and be done with the 6.9 million

Whilst Malaysian Chinese seem the most favoured I had two friends who got approved 2 weeks ago and they are anything but Malaysian Chinese.

Both single whiteys in their mid-30's

Not sure either is in ground breaking jobs either, they have been hear 4 and 7 years respectively, so maybe if you put your time in then that counts for something.

Well said - that looks true!

Not sure if it is true but I guess Fillipino wife may be the reason, there are too many Fillipino approved in the past so to add one more they must wait till another Fillipino became citizen or lose his PR status. They hold for 15 months mean they think there is chance to approve but just no opening slot yet. And I know a family of caucasian expat got approved in 2.5 months just recently

That's the annoying thing if true: my Filipino wife is a VP who earns more money than I do. Shes not working in a shop or as a nanny.

If these racial quotas are true, its a damn disgrace. Remember - this is a Malay island, not a Chinese one.

So what if it was used to be a malay island. Afterall, it was ousted out from Malaysia and philippines had no major role over the evolvement of what Singapore today and it owed you nothing. Even the local malays have recently raised their concern on the increasing influx of phillipines immigrants. Like it or not, the racial sensitivity and proportion will always be the consideration of the gahmen here. However, your high household income plus a son are seem favourable. I have a close neigbour whom both husband & wife are working as an engineeer here for the past 10 years and has a five years old son have all gotton their PR lately after waiting for more than 1.5 yrs. Fret not if you have the credentials and just be a little patience.

Yeah, but North America does not have racial quota's. Not perfect, but not that bad.

Australia appears to be going backwards on this one though!
