Singapore Expats

Hello
My husband is a Singaporean citizen and I am an Australian citizen. Right now I am here on a normal visit pass but I expect that to change to long term visa pass.

If I deliver here in Singapore, can the baby be an Australian citizen with Australian passport? We plan to move back to Oz within the next few years and the kids growing up would mostly be in Australia.

The baby will automatically have Singapore citizenship. You can also get Aus. Citizenship but be advised that if it is a boy, he will automatically aquire an obligation to do national service in Singapore. Do a search of the strictly speaking sub forum for details of the hazzards that must be avoided.

Your baby can have dual citizenship till the age of 18. You can get many benefits from having a Singaporean baby, such as baby bonus, tax deduction, childcare subsidy, etc. I think your child can renounce the citizenship if he/she want but i m not sure about the consequence.

Are you sure on the age of 18?

If you are not sure , please do not post as you do not have a clue what you are talking about
