You can try. But your case is dime a dozen. Won't fly. Sorry.

No difference. If ICA allows that, we would have thousands of people in your shoes doing that for the longest time already.

3. I know she can keep extending her short term social visit pass by making visa runs to Malaysia, but how many times can she do that? Do you think that the immigration guys will not object her visa runs looking at our case that she cannot live alone in India?

Visa runs are very serious and we do not encourage. Your mother will end up being barred at the border on both sides!

4. Is there any other way she can stay with us for longer duration such as at least 6 months at a stretch after which she can visit India and come back?

If she is awarded with LTVP (if you can get her one), you can try to renew it but if it is rejected, she has to leave and you probably will need to apply for her again (or appeal).

5. Can a PR holder or citizen sponsor her stay/LTVP despite not being a blood relative?

Unfortunately no. Refer to my answer at 2.
