Singapore Expats

Hi,

I work in Singapore and my brother works in Malaysia. We are both Indian citizens. My mother (Indian citizen) is not eligible for LTVP here because I am not a P1 pass holder. Nor can she get an LTVP in Malaysia. We were thinking if she can alternate 1 month in Malaysia and 1 month in Singapore. In this case, it is much more legitimate than a 1 day visa run and at the same time it qualifies for a short term social visit in each country. However, we read somewhere that upon entry into any of these countries, the immigration will ask for a return ticket to India.

1. Is it necessary to return to India? While entering Singapore, can she not show a ticket to Malaysia and still get a social visit pass
2. Is there any other way she can alternate between these countries without returning to India in between?
3. What if she shows a return ticket to India while entering Singapore but then cancels it and goes to Malaysia? I know we will be wasting some money on cancellations each time but we can do that if thats the only option.

You can do it max 2 or 3 times after that immigration people will become suspicious and ban her from entry.

What you are trying to do is a bad idea.

she will also visit India once or twice a year....does this sound bad even then? I have heard of people doing a quick few days visa run for many years, whereas in my case she will not return to the same country for at least a month. Prior to 2000, yes, it was often done, but now, ICA is pretty clued in and if they smell a dodgy affair, they will tell her not to come back to Singapore for a minimum of 6 months or she could be banned altogether as trying to scam ICA in principle. If she stay in Singapore, her Passport will already be flagged by ICA and when she DOES exit, regardless of where she exits, she will be told not to return. I believe it will also be noted on the last embarkation stamp as well before she leaves.

Wd40 already told you what you want to do is a bad idea and hence answering your specific questions is pointless for him.

Do you really want to know? Use the forum's search function to find other threads that answer your questions and You're not the first and only person who thought about doing visa runs to extend one's stay in Singapore.

I should warn you: you won't like what you'll see and hence don't bother to ask the same thing again in different threads. Bottom line: your mother won't be able to live in Singapore.
