Fighting to get on a packed Bus ...........

My favourite travel scenario happened on the way home from work last night.
Two buses of the same number ended up travelling back to back.
When I got on my bus the 2nd bus hadnt caught us up, but by the 4th stop it was packed. Sadly I was trapped at the back.
I could see that there were about 6 ppl on the bus behind, but everytime my bus stopped folk at the stop were fighting to get on it ........ when clearly the bus behind on the same route was empty.
When I finally got off to switch buses, folk were still fighting to get on the bus I was on when there were less than 10 ppl on the bus behind doing the same route.......
I just like to laugh at the stubborness of the need to get on the first bus, when it would clearly have been far more comfortable on the 2nd bus.

I’m not a big user of buses during rush hour, more of an off peak traveler. So recently it did come as a bit of a surprise at how busy they are around 7:30pm. I had hoped that the worst of the rush would be over by then. I went for a beer, came back about an hour later and was even able to get a seat. I’ll stick to off peak, or that following bus if I spot it.

Yeah, but they 'won' and you 'lost' by ending up on the second bus.

The first bus was guarantied, the second only a possibility leaving aside that you were probably the only one who noticed the 2nd bus.

Interesting read.
I'm in the process of finalising a move to Singapore (HR currently have all my documents) and so my thoughts are now focused on an apartment.
I had a quick look around when I visited on a business trip and saw some places (small, but nice) down at Tong Watt Road area which is pretty convenient for Mohamed Sultan Road / Clarke Quay but still a good 15 / 20 mins walk / MRT run to my office near Bugis.
So, I was beginning to consider living further out where it appears you REALLY do get a lot more space for the same amount of Rental Dollars, however I was wondering how long / chaotic the morning / evening rush hours were.
Do people queue and if so are queues respected?
Are the buses regular and timely?
If so then I'm of the opinion it may be more comfortable to have an extra 15 mins or so bus ride to and from work and have room to move at home as opposed to these tiny (yet nice) apartments I have seen.
Peoples thoughts on living a bit further out to get more space?
Pros and Cons ?
Single guy, late 30's who wants to focus on work through the week but at least in a neighbourhood environment with some restaurant / bar options and leave the big nights out in the city to the weekend.
Thanks in advance for experienced thoughts !

Queues are expected but you get occasional a$$holes who don't respect queues. A good talk-down when they try to cut the queue will do the trick.

Half of the time. I usually take bus arrival timings with a pinch of salt. It always appear that they only not timely and irregular when you need them the most.

Well you're young and single so if space (and rent) is not a huge factor, why not live near where you work? I'd think otherwise if I were to have a family living with me.
