How long til you get used to the smell and/or taste?

Boss has just bought ice cream for everyone, 50% of the tubs were durian flavour........

The whole place now stinks!!

Five years on and I still don't get it!

Lol. In my country we are very much used to Jack fruit and although it has a strong smell, nothing beats the durian. So I think those who can bear the jack fruit smell, bearing the durian smell becomes easier.

Wait until your boss throws a durian party in the office................................

I was born in it, molded by it, there was no such thing as getting used to it. Durian, the epitome of fartalicious deliciousness

So, I know what to bring on the next gathering

Not for me - professed Jackfruit lover, Durian hater!

I don't get the Durian hate. It has a strong smell, but to me nothing like the horrendous sewage/fecal/rotting flesh everyone describes.

I'm not a big fan of the Ice cream, but boy do I love some fresh 猫山王ï¼Â

took 4 cracks at the stuff over 2 years,

Actually the smell doesn't bother me, there are some European cheeses that real stink like dog doo.

First time felt like I was eating an onion and mango purée, not pleasant and my tummy gurgled for 2 days

Second time, notice the texture was interesting and no gurgling, loved the whole durian ritual, gargle with salt water from the discarded husks etc.

3rd time Stunned I never noticed the sweet caramel taste, seriously just like the inside of a éclair!

4th time love it, has a creamy toffee, caramel, buttery taste, I can see why orang-utans and locals go mad for the stuff, many paying more for a few seed than some class A drugs.

Interesting my sprog loves it from day one.

I'm with beppi on this one. I've tried it a number of times and a number of varieties, but no go. The smell doesn't bother me at all. Oddly enough, I don't really care for Mangosteens either. Go figure.

someone should make durian cheese or durian kaya. would go so well on toast!

It's an acquired taste. Perseverance does pay off..
