My wife dropped her phone and although it had a cover the screen broke. Been googling a bit and called a few places for repair but the cost is 350$ to get it repaired.

Anyone have any good connections to someone who can do it cheaper?

Frankly, if she broke a Gorilla Glass S4 I'd be afraid of replacing the glass only to find out later something else inside was "damaged" and didn't show up till later. I think I'd just be tempted to go get a new one.

Costs $240+ and takes about 1 day.

If you bought the phone on contract from a service provider, check out with them.

My friend's Iphone's screen came off when his child hurled it on the floor and the service provider(singtel or starhub) replaced it for him free of cost.

I know, I was shocked as well. But I guess thats good part about contracts

Wow.... will definitely try that out. Guess second choice is the Samsung shop... new phone is 900$ as far as I know

I managed to drop my Galaxy Note after I'd only had it a few weeks and the screen broke. I took it to the Samsung service centre at Plaza Singapura (B2 level) and the chap there asked me if I'd ever had anything repaired there before. I told him (truithfully) that I hadn't and had been a Samsung phone customer for many years (I showed him my old Galaxy S that I was using after the Note got damaged). He then told me that as a gesture of goodwill they would replace the screen F.O.C., which they duly did within a few days. I was very pleasantly surprised by this outcome as I had been expecting to pay $200+ to get the screen replaced.

On the S4 (which I think otherwise is a truly excellent phone), I've heard of other people experiencing problems with the display cracking. So it seems there may be a generic weakness there, which you might want to bring up in the conversation.

Interesting to read WD40's story about a service provider replacing a damaged phone. In my experience with the family's various broken phones over the years, SingTel have never wanted to help in any way whatsoever, and have always directed me to the manufacturer's service department. Obviously there's no harm in trying with the carrier too, but if it were my phone I'd go to Samsung first.

I had a good experience at the Samsung Service Center at Marina Square. I used a cheapo sim-card adapter to use a micro-sim in my Galaxy Nexus, and it pulled the pins out when I took the SIM out. The phone was out of warranty, but they gave me a complimentary extension and repaired it free of charge even though I admitted it was my fault.

Only negative: They re-loaded it with a slightly different ROM that wouldn't update anymore past 4.2.1. (It went in with 4.2.2). I had to reload it again myself, but that was minor.

On that, be aware they *will* wipe the phone.

The service providers replacing phones only works for iphone's. The missus had problems a couple of times with her old iphone 4. They were promptly replaced with new (maybe refurbished ones), only check was for water in the phone (flashing a torch at the connector at the base of the phone)

I know that the same deal is not available for sony or HTC phones. Once you take them home, any problems you contact the company not starhub.

@Mi Amigo, is your warranty still valid when you went to Samsung to have it repaired? My warranty just expired Feb 2014. I've been reading on other forums as well that Samsung offers FOC if it's your first time to have anything repaired there.

Just a heads up, apparently the galaxy s6 is heard to be pretty buggy, so you might to settle for other tried models like note, or even other brands.
