Singapore Expats

Hello,

Does anyone know the 'best' site (or alternate method) to purchase affordable flights? It seems like the shorter flights around Asia are fairly inexpensive, but longer hauls (ie NY) are quite pricey. I've looked at a few online so-called 'discount' sites and haven't been impressed with the offerings.

Is there one site (or alternate method) you would recommend over others?

Google skyscanner and visit their website to check the prices after entering the details.
it takes the prices from various travel agents/companies.

Use Hipmunk or Skyscanner to get a sense of which airline goes where, then go directly to the airline's website. You will get the best deal.

I have used momondo.com a few times. Seems to do a good job too.

I book a lot of long haul flights and for long haul by far the best search engine is cheapoair. Sounds bad but I REALLY is the only one I use now. All the others have vested interests and do not show all the airlines. Cheapo finds the best and the cheapest fares
For asia, it is still best to go to each airline individually - AirAsia I still find the best, then all the rest bundled in together - tiger, jetstar etc

Thanks to everyone who replied. I've checked out the suggestions and found some good flight possibilities. I wouldn't have found those sites without you pointing the way.

kayak.com is my favourite.

I use viasingapore recently and am quite satisfied. Search for flight, choose travel agency and paid for it by going to the travel agency.

Just be very careful if you book flights through Kayak, Expedia, or the Singapore one whose name escapes me. Unlike booking through the airline, where, for a fee, you can change your ticket, almost all tickets purchased through travel sites are non changeable and non refundable.

I use http://www.zuji.com.sg - has worked out pretty well for me so far!

Done it before for my Laos trip. Pretty OK. Skyscanner was still able to pick up up-to-date flights on offer from local budget airlines.

I will give Zuji a miss now. I think 2/3 weeks ago, there are quite a fair bit of negative media whereby customers have bought tickets on Zuji but the tickets are not issued. Customers end up going to the airport without flight tickets, and having to buy flight tickets on-the-spot (more expensive).
