Singapore Expats

Hey everyone!

Sorry to disappoint but I'm not an expat

I came on here because I thought it would be a safe bet...

I am coming to singapore this weekend to open an offshore savings account then link it to a trading account in singapore...

I understand its more difficult to do this now? Where can I go, how can I do?

Go to a bank.
Then go to your trading firm.
I wouldn't expect to be able to do it over a weekend, most banks are closed. Bank hours in Singapore are generally 830am-330pm. Mon-Fri.

I can only come on the weekend! I have a flight booked for this Saturday.

The thing is last time I came to Singapore I walked around all the banks in the financial district and most said I had to be a citizen or working there. I went to one bank (forgot which one) but they said I just need proof of address and passport which I have this time round.

Just wondering if anyone knows any banks in Singapore I could use so I don't have to search round for the best one!

The trading account can wait until next time but I would like to open a savings account in Singapore for now.

The only one that will do what you want (that I am aware of) without requiring a letter of reference, is Citibank.

You should call them before coming. While many banks do offer Saturday morning open hours, a lot of the functions available during the week are not available.

Both DBS Bank and United Overseas Bank at the Parkway Parade shopping mall are open Saturdays. But like the previous poster said, I'm not sure if the services you need will be available that day.

Citibank there definitely is not.

The OCBC just outside is open 11am-7pm every day of the week. Call OCBC, if they do what you need they may be a good choice.

If you are coming from a country where the proof of address isn't in English then you will have some troubles. You'll need an official translation that is approved by a notary or other official.

If you are willing to deposit more than 200K SGD then you can probably open a Priority banking account with few private banks.
Chance are high that they may not ask for too much documentation + few of their priority branches are open 7 days a week.
