Singapore Expats

I like to have a cold pint or even a single malt or Jack from time to time and I don't like my venues too noisy and like to be in place where I can have a quiet smoke with my drink.

Scruffy Murphy's at East Coast Park is good place to do that and so is Penny Black on Boat Quay. I like a couple of the Harry's outlets as well. I like the relaxed feeling of a laid back place I guess and some of the pubs are better than others. However I guess I looking for some new inspiration on a few new places to go.

So as the subject says: What's your favorite 'watering hole' and why?

My home or a food court nearby

There is a food court in front of my house that serves Bud 650ml for $5.50. Epic win!

You actually drink that crap? I'm a Yank and I won't touch it the stuff!

Sad to say the days of half decent pubs in the suburbs of Singapore are almost ended... I'm thinking of the Wagon Wheel, Faber Valley Pub etc.... these places are disappearing and won't be back. There's nothing within walking distance of my place except horrible KTV places (aka brothels) and a hawker stall that is the last one standing - so I drink at a hawkers if I'm drinking near home.

I go to a bar in a '4 storey' building .. because I get happy hour draft tiger till late ..

And very soon my other favourite place, Muddy Murphy's, for their Strong Bow, maybe gone

It depends who I'm with. Someone I want to have a serious or important conversation with? Then somewhere quiet and relaxed. A friend from out of town or just somewhere to have fun (but not get smashed?) I like places with a view. These tend to be pricier, but I usually only have 2-3 drinks so it works out.

Best view in Singapore? The bar on the roof of Raffles Place. Best of any I've been to? The bar on top of the Ritz (118th floor of ICC) in Hong Kong.

Yeah I have tried most cheap beers available here including breda, dester, chang, singha, becks, asahi and sapporo.

I drink chang most often, if I drink at home. Get it from fairprice 6 cans for $10.50.

Having these two mentioned in the same post doesn't seem right.

Mine is either Holland Village's food centre, or Thirsty inside Liang Court, CQ (my latest gem - it is something like Cider Pit but cheaper and very quiet), or Muddy Murphy's next to OT (I know!).

Long gone. There is a "beach cabana" that's opened quite close to there. The food sucks, but it's roughly the same view if you just want to sit outside and have a beer.

I love Singha... but only together with spicy Thai food. Seems to be taylor made for that. I'd go for a Tiger or Carlsberg any day....
