Looking for a car mechanic for small repairs and servicing in the West area.

Any recommendations?

I find it easiest, and cheapest in the long run, just to use the dealers.

Yeah there is something to be said for that. Esp when an independent screws something up..... and you have to take it back to the dealer who delights in scolding the ignorant expat on their mistake.... (um yeah I have a degree in engineering and have fixed more cars than you've driven but whatever)...

However... for simple jobs that I actually supervise.... I use SpeedyCare on Balestier Road. I by simple I mean tightening a belt or changing a head light bulb. And I'm serious when I say I supervise.....

PNGMK, I'm much the same way, and I am using the dealer's service even now for the 7 year old Kia. Sure it's probably 30% dearer in cost but I've got recourse if something does go belly up. I'd probably do the light mechanical bits myself once the guarantee is off but I, like you, have rebuilt and restored numerous cars. Although I'm not an engineer nor a mechanic, I'm a farmboy. The end result is 'bout the same though.

If your car is covered by your company (or the AA), check for the approved list of mechanics.

If you're on your own, you can try Bukit Merah workshops area behind Alexandra Food Village, not far from IKEA. Shop around, there are gazillions mechanics housed within blocks and blocks of workshops.

You might like to try Autobacs in Bkt Batok.

The problem is they can become very busy and if you need something done, get there early. It will, also, matter what kind of car you have. I had a radiator need replaced and they said to come back in 3-days, which of course was crazy.

There are plenty small workshops around the Midview Bldg, including Stamfords that does basic servicing, but other than Stanford for alignment of my front wheels I've never had anything done around there. In general I head to a specialist aftermarket mechanic in AMK.

Anyway, at least more 'West' than anybody else's suggestion so far.

We do regular maintenance at Tabernacle (Auto) Services, Kian Teck Drive (off Pioneer North Rd). It is not that I can recommend them particularly for anything specific* but so far they did not damaged anything (that we could have noticed) and they are the most West for all the mentioned workshops so I win.

*) ok, there are nice and have a comfortable waiting room.

I can't bring myself to use the authorised "stealer" so it looks like I will have to try and build a relationship with one of the guys in Alexandra.
