Singapore Expats

Hello Everyone,

I will be moving to Singapore in less than a month now and I was wondering if it was possible to Kitesurf around the city.

It the same time, i will be looking for a roommate so if anyone interested, hit me up.

I have a friend that goes to nearby Bintan Island on the weekends for kite surfing. I myself have never been, but there are definitely people doing it here, so you should be able to find some good spots.

Yeah, most kiters here go to Trikora, Bintan, or, for longer trips, Mui Ne or Boracay.

When the SW hits, they have a go off our East Coast, either near PA or near Bedok Jetty.

December to March is NE monsoon, good at Trikora, decent at Changi.

That said, I don't think kitesurfing has been given the official ok by the authorities anywhere within a several mile radius of Changi Airport, so until then you'll probably end up traveling for your kite fix.

Of course you could always come to the Light Side

I'm inerested in giving kite surfing a go! I'm pretty heavily into extreme sports; snowboarding, skating, parkour/free running etc. I'm still settling in here and I dislocated my shoulder recently so I'm not looking to start now but definitely in a month or so. Can anyone recommend any clubs/good ways to start for beginners?

Head to Changi, the beach, not the airport, because you're bound to meet kite surfers there, since that is about the only spot in Singapore where they're allowed to sail.

Mind you, the NE has pretty much come to its final phase, so you'll probably end up going to Bintan or Desaru to squeeze the last few gusts out of the season.

After that, it's SW monsoon, which means you'll be kite surfing along the East Coast, where, officially, it's not permitted.
