Singapore Expats

Hi,

This is my first post on the forum so I hope I enter to the correct area here.

I am due to move out to SG from the UK on the 22nd of November 2013. I already have an In-Principal Approval (IPA) for an Emplyment Pass (Category P2) issued by MOM and want to make sure I follow the correct procedure on arrival.

A medical exam seems almost compulsory, though I have read some conflicting text on the web, whereby in certain circumstances is is mandatory and others where it may or may not be.

On the IPA, page 10 (information page) it states under Medical Required 'Declaration'.

My question is what exactly is meant by 'Declaration' - is this like a waiver where I state I am free of TB and HIV, or is this pointing to the need for a medical exam upon arrival?

In addition, if the medical exam is required, what are the current expected rates for this?

It seems that many, if not most from UK, EU, AU, US only need the declaration, especially for EP's.

Correct I already have a position, and the human resource department have been very helpful....if somewhat vague in their responses, that's why i was trying to cross the i's and dot the t's myself...

Well I don't know the specifics of what you have to do.

But for a visa, last month, I had to have a blood test and chest x-ray. Took an hour, cost maybe $30.

The starting point is go to your neighborhood doctor, he/she can refer on anything else required.

Wow Strong Eagle that's made my day, so yes I can see the declaration as part of the IPA, so I can assume that would replace the formal medical exam. I almost booked to have it done privately in the UK at quite a cost....phew

When I came to Singapore I did one in UK , then had the required one when I got to Singapore.

The Singapore one picked up an issue that scared the life out of me....

The local medical center in Singapore will do the check and they just run through a basic check list.

Blood Test , Urine , height , weight etc etc ....

You only have to go further if any issues are picked up.

Thanks a lot! What's the subject in Blood test? HIV, HBV? Or those four types on MOM website: Tuberculosis, HIV, Syphilis and Malaria?

Jessie16 - It is this simple. If your AIP letter contains the declaration page, it will also contain instructions for filling it out. You do not need to go get a medical. Assuming you can check all the nasty possibilities in the negative, that declaration is all you will need.

However, if you were to check off that you are HIV positive or have had TB, it is a whole new ballgame. I don't know what will happen next.

If you are required to get a medical exam, it will be clearly stated.

I have no problem with a medical examination, but wanted to know the detail of it, and planned to take one in UK to save time. Most suggestions are to take one (have to) in Singapore.

Have it in SG, it will be way easier and way cheaper (after all, it's a routine thing here, and the doctors know precisely what to do).

Thanks JR8. It sounds more easier, hehe. I don't need to book one in UK then. It will not save time.
