Singapore Expats

Well, the weekend was calm, but it seems today Monday is a bit more eventful:

Check Stomp for more pictures... he did have his sword unsheathed at some point.

A big-sized man was seen holding onto a sword when he boarded the train.

According to the person who tweeted the photos, the man was shouting and commuters were seen running to one side of the train in fear.

Best comment I've seen so far is about banning alcohol in Dhoby Ghaut as well.

BTW, if there's a rogue samurai about, ninjas can't be far behind. You can't see them though.

Apparently, they caught him, so if it was a prank / viral marketing, it was a really bad / stupid one...

I know. My (ex?)gf (Singaporean-born Malay) were counselling a 12 yo kid with this problem in school. The kid denied any addiction outright: "I can stop whenever I want!" I drew to her analogy with her trying to quit smoking, how she denied addiction and how hard it was, she yelled at me that I just don't understand what she is saying yadayadayada...

BTW, Singapore local law forbids even having any knife in possession, as a chef friend found out .. when he left work after work, he had forgotten to remove one of his fruit carving knife .. as he left work, he was stopped at a Random check, at CQ (before the long renovation years ago .. ) and was arrested, though he was released the next day .. the knife wasnt' even 4 inch long ...

I remember reading something that you are allowed as long as it's justifiable that you have a knife with you. Maybe the chef didn't say that he was one?

I remember going to the Police headquarters and their metal detectors found my pocket knife (I forgot it was in my bag). They just had me sign a slip and told me to come back for it on my way out.

well, those were the days, where there was Law and Order in Singapore .. where after 12 Midnight, the Robo Cops come out to patrol every nook and corner of BQ/CQ .. and tough they were ..

he was dressed in his Chef overalls .. when picked up

Haha, there were some funny posts on that incident on FB and Instagram. But most of my friends were like it's Asia and you see people dressed up all the time on the MRT. But I don't know how I would have reacted if I was actually on the train...
