Hi guys,

I met my girlfriend in NZ. We have been distant relationship for quite some time after I had returned to Singapore. I want her to come Singapore after her visa in NZ has ended. She is from Guangdong and interested in teaching. So I think she could come here teach Chinese Language and stay with me. I know there are numerous posts on teaching in Singapore. But I couldn't find the answer I needed and neither MOE website is clear about expat needs to teach in Sg. So I seek your enlightenment what are the needs for her to come here to teach. She do not have teaching experience, she has a degree in her home, and has more than 5 years experience as working HR/accounting job. Is there any certification she need to take to enter teaching career in Sg?

Thank you

Yes, a university degree relevant to her job (i.e. teaching) - and applicable work experience, too.

As long as she is in NZ she could do an (unpaid) internship or something similar (teaching evening classes, be an assistant teacher) in order to gain some teaching experience that she could put on her CV.

Otherwise I think every single school has their own requirements for teachers. Especially International Schools tend to hire teachers who weren't necessarily teachers in the past but have great language skills. Some of them even provide training programs. Try contacting some International Schools in order to get a feel if your GF would have a chance of landing a teaching job in SG.
