There are Tanglin Trust School, American School, ISS..which is the best ..? Views from expats would be appreciated.

If you are from the US, or US citizens or plan to return to the US after your stay in Singapore then by all means, send the kids to the American School. My kids have been very happy there. Its not perfect but its pretty damn close.

I think American and UWC are best International Schools here in the respect of curriculums and reputations.

Well, this topic, which should be of great interest to expats moving to Singapore, does not seem to have generated much controversy at all. Surprising. So let me ask a different but related question: which school or schools would you NOT recommend, and why? (within the libel laws, please).

Well they are all good but let's just make it clear: most Brits go to Tanglin and most American go to SAS because the curiculums just don't mesh well. There are, of course, exceptions -- but your nationality should help a great deal in your decision making.

Depends on how old your kids are, from my observations. Most schools have parents and kids who are very happy with the primary schools, but then some of the older/secondary schools don't seem to be too flash. I don't have kids at primary school yet, so I am giving you this second-hand - take it with a grain of salt.

Some schools (OFS, ISS, UWC) have the IB curriculum, so settling back into other schools or countries later should be less of an issue. Not perfect, but perhaps not a disaster either.

For the only Christian International School, you may go to International Community School (ICS) at 514 Kampong Bahru Road...take a left at the end of Lower Delta. It's a great small school, that loves kids, using American curriculum, where children are taught, using a Biblical worldview. They're still taking students as it's only the 4th day of school today. They also take students from 4 years old and up, and even with limited English ability... and help them learn English quickly...and move them into the regular classroom. An added bonus...it's not so hard on your pocketbook. Call and check them out today while there's still time! 6324-4287...ask for Florence Tan. The kids and parents love it there!

The ICS charges 16-20,000 per year, which is the same as a lot of other schools.

And, if ICS is the same cost as all the other International Schools (but better check it out for yourself...including all the extra fees), that means that they ...the one and only Christian International School...also teach at no extra charge, from the best book of all...Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth...the Bible, and the words of God: Do not worship any other God but Me, do not make an image to worship, do not take God's name in vain, keep the sabbath day holy, honor your father and mother, do not commit murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not speak falsely against others, do not covet another's possessions, to love thy neighbor as thyself, and so much more! Wow! And all for the same cost...truly ICS is the best! What do you want them to teach your children? It's your choice.

As soon as you start using superlatives to describe personal beliefs like "...the best" that's when I stop listening.

There is no 'best' when it comes to religion, only personal spritualty and the choices we make for ourselves.

Good information on the International Schools. Within the IB schools, how does ISS rank with OFS and UWC; does one have a better Kindergarten program? Also, is it easy to transition back to America during primary school, if you choose not to go the SAS?

Teaching one at the exclusion of any others is why we're in the mess we're in today! A balanced education is the holy grail!

So happy you're investigating the schools and have questions, and have found some helpful information, but this site may not be the best source for your answers. Regarding your questions about kindergarten, you may want to contact the Principal at ICS, Dr. Joe Beeson at [email protected] or Mr. Knute Reierson, who is over K-8, [email protected], or even contact the kindergarten teacher herself, another trained professional, by calling the school 6324-4287. The kids only go to school half a day today so staff should have lots of time this afternoon to answer any question. Better yet, you may want to attend the Orientation and Open House tonight at 7 p.m., which is especially for interested parents with students in Elementary grades (Kindergarten - Grade 5). Again, this Open House is tonight at 7 p.m...a great time to see ICS first hand, and hear a brief orientation by Dr. Beeson, be introduced to the board of directors, view classrooms, meet the teachers...and enjoy fellowship and refreshments with other ICS parents. Do come and ask the pros all your questions regarding your children. There will also be some high school staff on hand...although the Open House for high school students was last weekend. Come tonight...you won't be sorry. Children can go anywhere in life...if they have a great basic foundation, and are taught skills which increase their confidence. A wonderful Biblical world-view will prepare your child for whatever lies ahead, including transition back to...wherever. Another tsunami or something similarly bad, is probably just around the corner. Are you preparing your child? If not, better take them to ICS...and they will. Go Lower Delta Rd, bear left on Kampong Bahru Rd, continue a short distance further, and the school is on the left immediately past a traffic light...see the colorful International Community School banner on the wall....514 Kampong Bahru Road. Outram MRT is close or Harbourfront, and buses 166 or 143, 61, or 124 will also take you there...get off at B08 or B09. Tell the taxi...just beyond (or before) St. Teresa's Church. Hope that's helpful. Registration is still going on for this semester...act now before it's too late...your child's future depends on the choices you make today...investigate the options, and choose carefully. Bigger is not always better.
