Singapore Expats

My girlfriends and I are going to Bangkok for a weekend of shopping soon. Does anyone know of a good hotel we could stay at . Thanks

Since you go shopping, it might be handy to either stay near Sukhumvit, for shopping at Emporium mall (high end), or otherwise for shopping at MBK (local mall, great shopping!) stay near Siam square. For IT and electronics go to Pantip Plaza at Petchaburi road..

At Sukhumvit I quite liked the Landmark hotel, it is great value for money.
At Siam, I'd opt for Pathumwan Princess Bangkok, first class for affordable price (should be around 100 Sing per night).
This one is also not too far from Petchaburi road.

Anorma's pretty good as well

The last few girl's trips I took to Bangkok, we stayed at the Oakwood Serviced Apartment. It's not walking distance to anything, but since we always hire a car and driver for most of the day, it really doesn't matter.

What's nice is the price (3 bedrooms for about S$ 160.) and that you can each have your own bedroom. There is a pool, restaurant, etc...

I always put up at Ambassador Hotel which is situated minutes away from Nana Station at Sukhumvit. Rates are pretty cheap at around $50+ if you book it through the Internet. It's quite a big hotel with an old wing and new. I am told that a lot of business people use the hotel for conventions etc... Happy holidays! Gerry T

To each his or her own of course, but know that Nana plaza is the low end prostitution area with all the gogo bars and such. It is at the beginning of Sukhumvit, the 'lower' part around soi 6. If you are comfortable with that, fine. If not, then choose Sukhumvit as from soi 20 or so.

I stayed at one of those cheap hotels (S$45 per night) near the Nana BTS with the fiance when we were in Bangkok last year. It's true what Eric said about it - we can see three levels of go-go bars from our room window. But they left us pretty much alone and it was a convenient start-off point to the places we ended up visiting like MBK and temples, etc. Language was a bit of a problem but nothing a little sign language can't solve.. we met several friendly people who helped us along the way and it made our trip pleasant ..

need to check the following:

1. Was told that it's cheap to do pants/blazer in bkk ..that u can do and pick up 1 or 2 days time..anybody know where exactly?

2. Also, my guy and i planning to take some studio picture..i remember last time one of my friend took it at this shopping ctr that has an amusement park inside..any suggestion where i can do it cheap and good?

THe Shangri-La is one of the better hotels in BKK and is next to the Skytrain which will take you to most malls you'd be interested in. Try and hit Chatachuk Market if you're going on the weekend also reachable by the skytrain and the new subway.

The benefit of the Shangri-la is its location on the river. After a hot sticky day of shopping you can sit by the river (or on your room balcony if you're in the Krunthep Wing) and relax.

I always book on their direct website....better rates.

Anyway, i think Meritus Suites State Tower is a very nice place.Excellent view.At the top level, they have a good drinking lounge and outside they have an open space for dining!Sometimes they have jazz live music.And the Tower is facing the Chao Phraya River..
5-10 mins walk to the skytrain.

reminds me of the Swissotel Stamford Singapore.

That bar you mention is indeed a great place, and it does indeed remind one of the equinox bar here in Singapore.
