Hello All,

I will be relocating to Singapore fairly soon and need to know whether the International Schools are typically close to the train lines? We will not have a car and this is obviously an important factor for us. Please provide any information that you may have. Thanks.

Nicole.

They are usually not very close from the MRT stations (no trains here, but MRT which you can compare with "metro" or subway) but almost every school offers bus services.

Unless you live in a remote area where no school buses are going, you should be fine.

Just a suggestion: check on the school's website.

Are you talking about for your children as their main transort to/from school? Or are you talking about for when you need to be at school once in a while?

Most International Schools contract a bus service which you pay for as an additional fee for transport to/from school. Some are located near an MRT, but with a heavy backpack, even 10 minutes can be too long a walk in this heat.

OFS is very close to Orchard and SAS is near Marsiling. The Australian school will have an MRT close by by 2008. UWC is close to Buona Vista (?) but not close enough, Tanglin too.

Best figure out the school you prefer first, then check into your options. Hope this helps,

MHB

Thanks for your help

Hello All,

Thanks for your assistance so far. I am thinking about the International Christian School .......will try to send them a fax today to inquire on their bus service etc. Your answers to my questions so far is really appreciated.

Even if there is not an MRT too close, there will usually be a bus service. I hardly use the MRT because it isn't close to where I live, but never have a problem getting anywhere on the bus. But like someone else mentioned, most schools have their own private bus service, which can work out pricier than if you took your kids to school each day on the public bus, but it is more convenient, especially when it rains and you can get soaked just walking for 5 minutes!

The school bus is a better option.. they will pick and drop off your children from the house.

Not many int' schools are close to the train stations..you would probably still need to take a public bus to get to the train stations.

Hi... OFS is less than 5minutes walk from Orchard MRT. There is a fantastic bus system for the children if you choose not to use the MRT though!

Hope that helps

International Community School...very close to Clementi MRT

Nicole, International Community School is 2 bus stops from the Clementi MRT station (green line), in its convenient western Singapore location, and close to Holland Village. There are several tourist attractions in the western part of the country...so it's a nice area to live. Click on the Expat Guide on this web site, and go to International Schools, and see ICS at the top of the list...and the web site. Check it out, as there is lots of information on the web site. I heard the Open House is on August 12th, and would be a good time to see all that ICS has to offer...and to sign up, but might be better to call now while there are still lots of openings in the various grades. Renovations on the new larger campus, where the school just moved, are making it like new. Lots of people are working in the office during this school break and would love to speak to you and help with any questions. You'll be happy you did, as you can't beat the loving, encouraging, family friendly environment. And yes...very close to the MRT station and just off the AYE highway...you can't miss it! :)
