Singapore Expats

Good morning to all

Just a quick message to look for potential ideas re activities for 2 lovely boys respectively aged 6 and 4.

We are due to move to Singapore at the end of march and the boys are only due to start school at the end of april . I would be very grateful to anyone giving us ideas of what activities would be available for them to meet up with other children and discover what singapore has to offer , all to help them settle in more easily.
Our boys are easy going , love sport, arts and crafts, socialising. They are english speakers but can also speak a bit of french.

As I will be about 30 weeks pregnant by then, I am more looking for activities that will not require any big physical activity from my part .

Hi,
Well there is a lot in Singapore for kids. I have 2 boys 6 and 2 YO and they are kept busy.
East coast park: beach, rides, food, roller blading, bikes. The kids can play while u relax in the sun.
West coast park: excellent adventure play are for ages 2 +, a McD there as well.
Forum on Orchard road is good for theyounger kid. They have a small play area that u can take membership for.
Safra play areas located throughout the city are good for sporty kids.

sounds like my boys will have a blast.
My husband is actually in singapore this week looking for accomodation. Were recommended to look for something in Holland Village. Saw your location and was wondering if you would recommend it.

Hi Frederique,

Well, Holland area is quite good, high expat population and a wide variety of condos and landed houses. It is quite central, 10 minutes from Orchard, well connected with buses(no trains yet).
I like it.

Our boys are due to go to Dover Court School and we would like to stay central enough . Would you have any particular recommendations as for the districts that you's recommend. I believe my husband was quite impressed by Bukhit Timah. There is nothing like info from locals so I'd really appreciate your insight if you wouldn't mind.

Firstly, i am hardly a local. Have lived here for 6 months but i am happy to pass on information i have.
Small world, my elder son goes to Dover Court as well year 2. It is a good school, smaller than other International Schools and kids from all over the world, they celebrate diversity positively.
Bukit Timah is a good area, not very far from Dover Court 15- 20 minutes,

Thanks for your info re dover court, sounds positive. Luke is also due to be in year 2 when the summer term starts. Can you tell if they plan on doing the stas tests like in the uk ?

I hope i didn't offend you by saying local, i only meant someone living locally.

No offence taken, i just din't want u to think that the info was coming from a veteran.

Dover Court conducts SATs for KS1 sometime in late May, early june i don't know the exact date.
Which part of UK are u from?

Are leaving in London at present but am actually french. My husband is irish and our boys are just a tad confused by what nationality they should be.

how about inline skating?

i used to send my children to this Skateschool at one of the community centres (West Coast) near to holland area and west coast park ... the boys just love it and i get 1 hour of personal time haha....whoops

Hi there,

An hour off means i get some free time on my own without the children
*blush* sometimes you just need some alone time yea? Was kinda thinking of activities for them to join but really don't fancy the conventional swimming, cycling. Inline Skating's will keep them occupied for a long while. The kids are loving it and the instructors' are rather patient ..double hooray.

Anyways, Sunny Singapore seems great to my folks so far, hope you like it too when you get there.
