What kind of accommodation can be afforded on a salary of approximately 180k SNG working for an investment bank in IT?

Is that a respectable salary given the living costs? Does this kind of salary make the transition seamless?

You serious? It's not that great a salary is it? Singapore is expensive. What type of accomodation is typical for people in this salary range then?

without getting into a willy waving discussion, i would say that for an "expat" worker in IT that’s middle of the road.

Without knowing(or asking) what exactly you do, i assume that that is a package that at least has some sort of health / relocation / a trip home etc etc and perhaps a bonus scheme.

If you are American you will have to pay US taxes on a proportion of that, and also carry the costs of learning how to live in a new country etc etc.

You can be more than comfortable on that rate, and can be saving money as well, depending on your lifestyle, but like all things, its also easy to spend it all.

A single person/young couple would prefer to stay in River Valley/Orchard vicinity in a small apartment. I don't know how much they are asking for now but I would venture a guess at $4.5K a month.

For a family, they would of course move further out.

An annual pay of $180 k is more than comfortable in Singapore. Let's say taking away taxes, rentals and expenditure amounting to $80. Parking away $100k for savings, you canjolly well retire in Singapore after 10 just years of work here. But if you have a luxurious life style , that will be different : )

That's how good your pay is.

You didn't indicate your marital or family status. If you have school aged children, don't forget to factor in 20~25K/year per child for International Schools as well. This can knock a big chunk out of that also, as can having a car here versus public transport. allowing 80K for accommodation, taxes and so forth is on the low side. I would allow at least 100K for that. However, if you are single and want to save as much money as possible, you can easily save 130K a years or more by adjusting where you live, what you eat and how you travel.

Impossible to know without concrete information: number of people moving, expectation of schooling if any, where are you moving from...
