Singapore Expats

Hi,

Any mommies with kids studying in this school? I heard this more like a local expat school. We are PR here and my boy doesn't like mandarin, too. Do your kids need to take mandarin as a compulsory subject? Are they having fun in this school? Really appreciate some precious sharings on this school.

My daughter is at Tajong Katong Primary school.

I think you have a choice of mother tongue languages but need to choose one. My daughter is surviving learning Chinese, but you just can't get upset if they fail their exams. To help her with her chinese we do have to invest in a tutor 2 times a week.

Local school puts a lot of pressure on the kids, i don't like the concept of exams for Primary 1. But, you need to accept the local system if you are going to send your kids there. You just balance the pressure at home and ensure you balance after school activities with non academic subjects.
At the end of the day, if you have to pay your school fees yourself, $20-25K a year per child for International School instead of $14/month for local makes a big difference. You can pay for a lot of after school activities to balance the academic side of local school.
