October through March - worth pursuing the public school?

We are so excited to be heading to Singapore, albeit for only 6 months. We have a 2nd and 4th Grader and would truly love fully immersing them through the public school system. Will October through March be an unrealistic time to do this? From research, it seems that testing occurs around November, then the school year begins in January. Is this correct?

We're facing a very similar situation. What did you end up doing?

It has become more difficult to enroll in a local school. You might try one of the smaller
International Schools. The fees are lower and the waitlists are shorter. The International Community School (ICS) offers an American-ish program, as an example.

www.moe.gov.sg.
You need to be in the zone in order to be admitted in the school. Even that most of the primary school waiting list is a mile long.
I am not sure but it used to be OK if you approached the school to be enrolled under international student. The fees will be higher though .
This you have to go to individual school to check it out.
Other than that what scarbowl said is very true I'm afraid

You could consider homeschooling. That is fairly popular among expats especially, nowadays. I myself have many friends who are homeschooled.
