Singapore Expats

Hi,

We are a small family (2 adults, 1 child) that have an approx 2 month period between moving out of our apartment (Mid Oct) and leaving Singapore and need somewhere to go in the meantime....I have looked into Serviced Apartments but money is tight and the absolute cheapest I have found is $5000 per month(!!!!) Have tried en bloc condos with short term rentals but even they want 6 month min rental, I have search the classified ADs and even posted a "wanted" Ad on a few sites but so far I have found nothing, and recieved no replies.....Is there really nowhere you can stay in Singapore short term for around the $2-3K a month mark???? (either furnished or not, we can be flexible) Don't even want any facilities...although I draw the line at Hotel 81 (neighbours too noisy and changing by the hour!)
If anyone knows of anything I haven't thought of please let me know x

Try back packers hotel or YWCA or YMCA.

Another route is look for those three stars hotel and discuss them two month accom special. Alternatively there is a resort at Changi end. NTUC Resort. try there

you'll find something on craigslist or gumtree, just have to keep your eyes peeled

i'm also interested in renting a Serviced Apartment (3-bedroom) for 20 days in sept 2011 for my wedding, but am struggling to find anything of reasonable quality under $5000 (for the 20 days)....can anyone help?

If you aren't Singaporean, PR, work/study here or have any other kind of residence permit, you cannot legally rent from private landlords. In that case hotels or Serviced Apartments are your only option.
Serviced apartments start around S$2500/month for a studio, so I guess S$5000 for a three bedroom is usual. Try a budget hotel instead!

If a private landlord agrees to rent to you illegally, walk away as fast as you can: Since landlords get into deeper trouble for this than tenants (and he knows this!), he's probably only out to cheat you somehow. (E.g. you'd have no way whatsoever to recover your deposit if he keeps it!)

If you can legally rent, landlords here are mostly reluctant to sign anything below a one year lease, but you might be lucky if you search hard and negotiate well.

thanks beppi - i appreciate the advice (I've had some dodgy replies to some of my posts on the net!).

Budget hotels would be an option if it were just me, but we want to hold some of the wedding celebrations in the apartment such as tea ceremony and pre-wedding gathering so kind of need the living/dining area. Plus in theory(??) it should be cheaper to rent 3 bedrooms in an apartment than 3 separate hotel rooms!
