Singapore Expats

A number of daycares/preschools have been hit with some nasty cases of food poisoning in just a very short amount of time. To date 235 kids and 12 teachers have been affected with several hospitalizations from 3 sites: Pat's Schoolhouse, The Children's Place @Kay Siang Rd, and Learning Vision @Raffles Place.

1. Does anyone know the procedures that are taken by local authorities in such cases?
2. What is the liability of the daycare/preschool and catering service?
3. Does anyone have a list of the catering companies that were responsible? 4. My concern is that these caterers may just re-brand themselves to hide their history. How can we track this?

The catering company for all three schools were one and the same company and it has been shut down by the NEA/Agri-Food authority and their licenses withdrawn.

Nowadays it's more and more dangerous to eat outside....

we have to becareful of child care with their own cook as well. I heard that one of the child care located at grace walk stored their left over in the freezer and cooked again on the next day for the children. can u imagine it?!

The papers reported the caterers involved. You can ask the MOE regarding liabilities (don't count on the information posted here unless posted by someone running a childcare center), and you can check ACRA for companies who change their names.

While serious, this happens at hawker stands and in restaurants from time to time. I think it is safer when the food is prepared in-house but it happens even then. It is the rare daycare that would have an in-house kitchen, I imagine. The International Schools would largely have their own kitchens as part of a larger organization but the daycare-only locations would not.
