I need to rent a room for 3 weeks as my new apartment isn't available - can anyone advise me on the best places to search online or basically any suggestions...

I suppose the orthodox route would be a Serviced Apartment.

Then you have hotel
A sublet in an HDB
Crashing with friends.

If serviced apartment, just search this site (links at top). Or use the Search button, the question is quite a routine one.

$7k for a months rental! that would take most of my monthly salary!! what do people who earn more normal amounts do when they are in such a situation??
PS: I am planning to move to SG on some date in september-october and might find myself in a similar situation.
I wonder if I have been shafted on my offered Singapore salary, given that even single room Service Apartment are soo expensive almost approaching my monthly basic salary!! I am single 27 years old dude and an IT Professional.

As part of your relocation package you would normally expect to be provided with temporary accommodation, whilst you sort out a permanent place.

In SG, from what I see anecdotally, people who make an effort can get off the plane and have a place rented within two weeks.

Hmm, I didn't ask for a relocation package. Just wanted to travel so I figured I could do it on my own. So whats route B for cheaper temporary accommodations while you look for a place? Or nobody has ever done that??

Try a hostel or cheap hotel - you can get a basic room for S$60-80/night, which works out to below S$2000 for the three weeks.
Don't expect any luxuries, though, at that price.

If you're travelling and don't have a long-term visa that allows residency, you are not allowed to rent normal residential property anyway. So you have no other choice than hotels and services apartments.

Aside from the novelty, who'd want to stay in a capsule hotel? Those in Japan are for people who missed the last train home (cabs are ridiculously expensive). Singers' got reasonable (relatively speaking of course) cabs and the Night Rider buses.

I don't even think its even a novelty! Rather a desperate measure on a very tight budget and I'm pretty sure there are plenty of takers if the doors lock even if its just to dump travelling bags and sleep in the open.

Take a look down east coast and you will see some desperate people, that cannot even afford the capsule hotel or can but prefer the open space.

I don't think it is closed becuase of the fire certificate application, the place has been inspected and is awaiting the application out come, it maybe limited to a few people though instead of the full 30 Though if you can confirm it's closed it will be better! We spent a long weekend in Genting with some friends and i must say that hotel there is no bigger than a matchbox too, but it served its purpose. The rooms were no bigger than one bed length plus two legs.
