Singapore Expats

Hello,

My husband got a position in NTU. We probably will move to Singapore in one year. I already visited this website many times and know that it is not easy for my 7-year old son to get into a good public school since we are on the lowest priority.

So we are considering some International Schools. Anyone who can recommend a good International School for us? I checked the Singapore American School, but it is far away from NTU. Are there any good international schools close to NTU (western area) with American curriculum? We want our son to go to college in USA when he grows up.

Hi,

There is a school called International Community school in the west ( not far from Clementi Station) which follows the american curriculum. Although my son doesnt attend, some of the american families from our condo go to this school and seem relatively happy.
I'm not sure whether there are any more in this area.

Hi

One of the main things is ICS is a christian school. The Campus is also alot smaller than the campus at the American School, but thats not necessarily a bad thing..

ICS has a website as does the American school so it might help taking a look to get some ideas or further information etc for you to compare the two...

Thanks for your info. For the ICS School, the problem is that we are not Christians. I am not sure how much time the ICS will use to teach religious and related topics to kids. And for the las lilas school, I just checked its website and looks like it is a Spanish school. My son had one year Spanish class, but not good at it since Spanish is not his native language.

I am searching some International School focusing on American curriculum with good reputation like SAS, not far away from NTU.

Have you checked Stamford American International School? Temporary campus is next to Australian International School and swimming pool is shared at the moment(not a bad thing). American teachers and curriculum. Offer both AP and IB.

Just visiting Stamford American International School’s website, it is a brand new school. I tried to get its admission requirements and related fees, but could not find on their website. I will keep checking on this.

I checked out this school about 1 month+ ago. I like their small class size and there is mandarin everyday. (or spanish)

You can do both IB and AP diploma but it's very challenging.

Pentium, could you elaborate? What is an AP diploma? Thanks.

Not sure but I guess it's the american advance placement.

But did they tell you there was a 'diploma' in it? Or that they offered AP classes? Since AP is basically college classes taught in high school, a diploma should be a college degree. Very confusing, I know. I was just wondering if there was some type of certification I was unaware of...

Pentium, Thank you very much for fee details. Could you please explain what the IB is? We are in US and heard AP classes that are taken by high school students most of time, but not IB.

They told me kids can do either IB or AP or both but it will be academically challenging. I do not know much about both but they said IB is very popular.
