Realistic hours worked

If the job advertisement says average 44 hours per week worked, what would be the "real" number of hours worked?

How many extra hours per day would be expected of employees? Half, one, two?

I have come across property agents who put misleading data in their advertisement. The objective is to get buyers to call them and leave their contact. Advertise $1500. When you call, they will tell you their sad story of how the owner back out or already rented out or need to wait another 2 weeks ...

Cost of HDB rental - overstated???

Reading through various expat forums the standard answer regarding the cost of HDB rental seems to be that you can't get anything for under around $2000. However, looking on soem sites, I regularly come up with search results for 3-room HDB flats for $1400 and even lower. And that's for the flat, no...

Actually, taxis FROM the airport in Manila (T1 or T2) are not so bad anymore. They are organised and you don't get ripped off (you just pay double the price of an ordinary taxi, probably because they're only allowed to take passengers one way). Paying double can be better than getting ripped off by ...

The source of the stress is not necessarily a demanding boss or tight schedules but the standards of work conduct you are used to. So you may have basically some problems with yourself to adapt to the environment. Perhaps your area is somehow exceptional but being already sold some expired medicine...

Re: Want to move to SG to work as pharmacist - is it worth i

HDB isn't so bad, but you'll definitely want to hold out for more than $600 housing allowance. Otherwise, (unless your wife is earning significantly too), you're going to have a hard time saving anything, unless you live extremely frugally. I suspect that going from a A$70k/year lifestyle to a S$50...

Actually, I haven't found the housing section on this website terribly useful. It doesn't seem to find any HDB flats for rent. It finds non-HDB apartments, condos etc, but my budget will likely be HDB. Unfortunately, if I decide to move, I won't be on any "expat contract". I will get relocation allo...

Apparently ppl come here with your open, optimistic attitude and get disappointed. I don't want to try to convince myself that it's some utopia. I realise I will be paid less and have a higher cost of housing (other costs don't concern me so much). As to work attitudes, that's something I'm trying ...

Stops you worrying about living on a small dot with nothing to do in your spare time (what spare time?) When these questions pop up there always seem to be peope particularly negative toward Singapore replying. If it was really that bad, then nobody would go there to work. I realise it's not utopia...

Want to move to SG to work as pharmacist - is it worth it?

I'm an Australian pharmacist and I'm considering moving to Singapore next year to work as a hospital pharmacist. I'd like to hear some of your opinions on whether it's worth it. I currently work in a public hospital, earn over AUD$70,000 a year, plus I have salary packaging tax-free of $9095, theref...
