Taking helper with family to HK

Hi We are new to having a helper and Singapore and did not go through an agency to find our lovely helper. We would like to take her with us to HK early next year. I have a gut feeling it's not as simple as buying a ticket and booking accommodation. Do we need to complete a form to request 'permissi...

Venting: They're a rude bunch on the MRT. We gave up a seat this morning for an older lady on her way to work and she never acknowledge or thanked my husband for giving up his seat (it wasn't a reserved seat for the less mobile). Most of the locals lack common courtesy. The buggers also don't give w...

AIS sports shoes?

Hi there. We are starting at AIS in term 3 and the kids are in need of new sports shoes now. Before I spend a small fortune could someone please let me know is the school strict? Are there guidelines at AIS in regards to which shoe is acceptable and not? At our current school the children are expect...

Thanks for the tips. I thought there would be more hotels with water slides in the tropics.

Hotel with pool and water slide

Hi there I need some recommendations, please. We are moving to Singapore in a few weeks and we will arrive in Singapore the day after our container arrives on the docks and a couple of days before it is due to be delivered to the new house. I am hoping to stay a couple of days at a nice hotel with a...

Thanks. Yes, the thought of having a new person living in our house is going to take a bit of adjusting...no more nudie runs. I'm more concerned about biting my tongue if I want to have a few heated words with my darling husband. It has crossed our minds to get a cleaner and a babysitter as we...

It's not a case of affordability for the maid. I am merely trying to get my head around what's involved. Having a helper is a big attraction and the privilege of a helper is going to cost more than $500-600 in monthly salary - there are agency fees, levies, health insurance and other items I probabl...

my concern with getting a transfer maid is What do I do if it doesn't work out? We are responsible for her. On average with all direct costs what does it cost to have a maid excluding food? I have read that we send her home every two years which seems unfair but then heard from others it's annually?

best way to get an awesome Helper

Hi there. Just wondering which is the best way to get a helper? A friend already in Singapore said not to bother using an agency and get one from a family that is leaving Singapore.

If you suggest an agency, which one?

Thanks
S

If I were to do it. I'd buy a case at the bottle shop (better selection) and check it through. Then pay the duty on this on arrival in Singapore. Can this be done?

One more thing:

Before I start taking more than I can consume (although I hear a there is a lot of wine time). My husband will be travel to and from Sydney quite regularly - he can also bring back case(s) of wine and will just need to pay the excise?

Thanks again.

Love this forum. Thanks for your replies. I guess the excise is fair. The Singapore Customs website (http://www.customs.gov.sg/leftNav/trad/val/List+of+Dutiable+Goods.htm) states "Wine of fresh grapes not over 15% alcoholic in containers of 2l or less". I guess I can bring in 4 cases of 750ml bottle...
