I guess we were lucky, we got in without a problem some 6 months ago. But it was very nerve-wracking for me since we got in just a few days before the school started. I have noticed that more and more FT people are looking for a local school spot. Fewer and fewer people are getting good expat money....

so many 5 post wonders on the board who do nothing to help anyone else and you know they are looking for a specific answer and will never return again. Isn't that the purpose of the EXPAT forum? To help and give info. It's not only for those who have ceased to be expats long ago. Oh, I've searched ...

We have our first test tomorrow - English spelling and dictation. I'm both nervous and excited. Hope he does well. We got the list of the words to practice, but I don't know how strict the teacher will be and how fast he needs to write. Wonder if his writing will be up to the standard, the words "ne...

Just one more thing, as of this year you can't walk to the local school and ask if they have any spots left. There will be two MoE tests each year and your girls will have to sit for one of them to get a place in any local school. My case was a bit different since I was able to approach local school...

Books and uniforms are on sale in the school itself. It was 5 cents more than popular, so we just went with the school to make sure we got everything right. I also have to send an e-mail to the PTA president to introduce myself and ask if I could join them.

I would just like to report that we GOT IN !!!! I was so happy that I cried  :D The school is not very popular. The top PSLE score for this year was 160 I think (best this year overall was 180 something and best ever was 194). I'm anxious to see how my son will fare. He is very bright and unde...

Thank you all I had a hippo in a drawer that had the most mold in it :( couldn't believe it. I don't know about the air-con's age, I'll have to ask the landlord about that. It looks newer to me. As for the apartment, it's big and bright and we do not use much air-con, and even when we do it's not mu...

I would also like to know how to get rid of it?!?! So far it's a smaller problem but it's growing and I need to stop it. Last night was especially bad, I woke up to a green furniture and all my clothes very fluffy. :? So what should I do now? I have used vinegar on everything, and clothes is waiting...

 Give em 6 months, they'll be haters just like the rest lol.... well, I spent last 10 years living among Asian people in the USA. At my husbands work there are fewer and fewer white people, and in a few more year there will be none. So I do know thing or two about Asian people. There are few t...

We're really happy in our HDB apartment. But I find the fact that folks can get a condo for such a low price amazing--granted we're only looking at HDB's so I know that in our area and the environs you can't touch anything for less than $1600 for a three room (two bedroom) and that would be a GREAT...

It does seem however quite risky to subject a brand new TV to the roughness of sea shipment - has anyone had any problems with their TV being shipped this way? I know of course that there's insurance, but of course, it's never the intention to have to rely on it. My stuff came here by post, as chea...

Hi Dalia, The next few weeks will be decisive. Most parents wait and make their decision as late as possible--up to the third week of December. I'd say your son still has a good shot. Keep visiting schools and let us know when and where he lands. Good luck! thank you This is just what I needed to h...
