That's interesting - I didn't know all that, Hannieroo - though, to be honest It has never occurred to me to ask ..... The Learning Support teachers came and spoke at a school meeting the other day to explain how they help ALL learners (not just a few) and the teachers. I really liked a poster they ...

Hi zhenni - you may be interested in another thread about Nexus - http://forum.singaporeexpats.com/ftopic84166.html&highlight= Nexus has grown a little since then but is still a nice size. Throughout the Primary school the focus is on collaborative learning. The focus is NOT to cram as many facts in...

I have children in different grades in Secondary School. One has just moved from Primary. I am not aware of a "high percentage" of learning diifficulties in either School. I understand that Dover has a reputation for dealing with learning issues. I don't think we have.

Dear Scarbowl Perhaps I am being obtuse but I am not aware of these rumours and don’t really understand the question – perhaps you could be more specific. I don’t want to appear as though I speak for the school – I am really just a parent, albeit an informed and opinionated one! Conc...

Hi bizzybee I did not consider those schools because they are too big for my kids and they have separate campuses for different age groups – I like all the kids being in the same place. I also understood that one is able to jump the queue at one if those schools if you paid a huge amount of mone...

Hi bizzybee, I am pleased you are coming to visit in a couple of days’ time. It is probably better if the school explains the rationale behind the pedagogy. I do not speak for the school, I am just a parent. It would be fair to say though that Nexus is not into exams for 6 year olds. However the...

Good tips from Hannieroo.... flip flops pf course are NOT for school! Singapore is very casual and people tend to wear flip flops a lot of the time - you may wonder why until you experience the first torrential (but brief) downpour! If you have not yet left your home country try and pick up plain na...

Hi Sez..... Check out the YouTube links I posted earlier in the thread .... Also on the NISS website you can see photos of the two Primary School productions The Jungle Book (Y3-6) and Mini Beast Madness (preschool) - the kids, parents and teachers pulled both productions together in a very short ti...

Hi again welshfowlers – wow - I was going to draft a quick reply but it turned into a Magnus Opus! I am hoping that More rather than Less is OK as it is such an important subject…. I have heard that Marlborough is a lovely school but it is quite a trek, isn’t it? Have you looked at the ...

Hi Xanthe13 I am more familiar with Secondary School but it may be the school appeared "ghostlike" because we have exams at the moment. Usually the place is buzzing with activity. If you would like to get a flavour of the school they have just posted some really helpful clips on YouTube - http://m.y...

Hi Ivysmom I don't know the East coast... We live near Sentosa, "Asia'a favourite playground" which suits us just fine! I really wouldn't worry about joining in January.... It is the nature of international schools that people come and go all the time. We have just had 14 students of all ages join u...

Hi Ivysmom and freshmeat, It is nearly a year ago that I visited ISS, Chatsworth and Nexus. At the time I did a comparative table which I recently deleted as I didn't think I would need it any more! Briefly and from memory, we preferred Nexus over all (obviously as that is where we sent our children...

PTA Funding

To those of you wh are already established ina school, I wondered whether you would tell me about the funding of your PTA/Parent Group. I don’t want to know the figures but it would be helpful to have a broad understanding of any norm there may be in Singapore. For example, a friend of mine from...
