Thanks for the replies.

I went to DBS and they seem to understand better than other banks about needing an account in order to have somewhere to live etc. As you say, I went in and 20 mins later came out with a bank card and shiny new account.

Bank account advice + accomodation

Hi all, So I've been in SG a little over a week. At the moment Im in a serviced apartment provided by my employer. Toward the begining of March I'll need to look for a new place to go but having a bit of a catch-22 moment and wondered if anyone had advice: I don't have the upfront cash to be able to...

33m just got in

Hi Just arrived this morning and starting work tomorrow. People weren't wrong about the heat! (my body was used to the snow in the UK I've just come from I think). I got met by my office manager and got some food this morning, then had a brief wander to the office (Orchard). Got myself an EZ-Link ca...

Even with "banned" films? I don't mean porn, I saw some horror/thriller on a banned list somewhere.

EDIT: I haven't ever looked to see if Amazon do porn...

DVDs and other import related questions...

Hi all, I know this has been covered in a few topics around here, but I couldn't find anything too recent, and a lot of the answers seemed quite vague and speculative. So, I thought I'd ask a couple of questions just to distill some answers if possible. I'm moving to Singapore for work next month (h...

Thanks nutnut. I suppose the honest answer is "I don't know" lol. However, based on say my London living, my commute is/was 30-40mins by car, and same by train as I had a 15min walk to the nearest tube station. So happy for that kind of commute. My office is on/in Orchard. In terms of facilities, I ...

Also... where's best to seach for these 'outside CBD' condos? I had a quick look on the properties here and nothing jumped out. I might not have put the correct criteria I guess??

Is it something best done in person and have a wander around when I get to Singapore?

No... No kids and wife just yet. Will have a girlfriend come out in about 6 months, but can re-assess living at that point.

Thanks for all the answers! In terms of the temporary accomodation by employer, it's more likely to be a hotel, or room with a shower really. Just enough to get me by while I do the searching. I'm sure worst case if I struggle I can ask for an advance on my wages, it's just in my head it looks bad t...

First timer for moving far far from the nest...

Hi all, I wonder if you'd be able to help me. I've had a look through various topics, but couldn't find anything specifically that answers my question(s). Ive been offered a job in Singapore, and probably heading out around mid-Feb. Though my company is picking up the tab for many things including s...
