Well... depending on the t and c of your contract I'd certainly expect to be paid while waiting to go. Have you signed a contract? If this an internal transfer or complete change of jobs/companies etc? Its a complete change of companies. The terms and conditions specify the start date of assignment...

i was asked to report at the end of this month in SG.. today morning, I get a call and the HR asks me to hold on for another 4 months..
i have resigned from my current job and packing up! and I get this call from the HR.. totally clueless on next step..

I am similar situation now!! I was offered a job, the consulting company pressed hard for me to resign and join within 30 days.. a fortnight ago, I resigned and made hard bargains with employer to relieve me within 30 days. today morning, the HR from consulting company calls up and says in cold tone...
