I'd like to suggest Akira Restaurant on Emerald Hill. It's a nice out of the way Japanese Restaurant that has an all-you-can-eat, order from the menu (including sashimi) for s$30 per person. It's good and the price is right.

I am wondering if there are any good snorkeling places that are not too far from Singapore (within a boat's ride, or short distance from Singapore). For reference, Phuket would be too far.

The restaurant at the Beaufort Hotel on Sentosa Island is called the Cliff. Very Romantic, especially if you book way in advance and get one of the tables overlooking the ocean.
