It is against the law to not carry your local identification (can be the NRIC or the Driver's License, or your EP/SP/WP.) In theory you should also carry your passport if you are a tourist. I'd recommend only carrying a photocopy of the front page or a photocopy of your NRIC if you tend to lose you...
