Re: Parisilk in Holland Village

I just got jipped today. They replaced a faulty product but did so with a generic non branded version and then proceed to up the price of the item compared to what we originally agreed upon so I had to pay more AFTER I was quoted a lower price earlier. I patronized them because having heard good thi...

Re: Changing Jobs after getting an EP

This is such an education for me. Thanks guys....and you know what? I can see that attitude even in the day to day work. I couldn't place it until you explained it. Singaporeans should live in Canada where I'm from - taxes are about 50% at the end of the day. Then you'll see some REAL complaining i ...

Re: Changing Jobs after getting an EP

Good to know...thats really interesting as I thought the allure of doing business here were was the ease of being able to run your business easily. But if you can't hire the people you need or you want, or if you can only do so at increasing costs, then it seems to go counter to the idea.

Re: Changing Jobs after getting an EP

Thanks for clarifying. I seriously doubt that they will get rid of FT's or if they do try to roll it back, companies would really feel the pinch with resources and getting things done.

Changing Jobs after getting an EP

I just got a good role and had my EP approved. I'm on a contract role so my gig is for a year but could be extended and made perm. Who's to say? I've been getting a lot of calls lately and some of the roles are an advancement for me. So I'm tempted to jump ship before the year is up. Question: Once ...

Re: Employment pass processing time

I got my EP after 5 weeks. But this was also over the Xmas Holidays and NY so I suspect longer than normal.

Re: Employment pass processing time

I'm in the same boat. My application was submitted on Dec 20th and I'm still pending too. My question is how long can the employer wait? Its for a very large MNC payments company and they spent 3-4 months looking for the role from what I was told. Just don't want them to re-tract an offer because MO...

What's the biggest social.......?

I'm a 45 yo male moving to Singapore in late November 2017 with my husband - we're both from Canada and looking to meet other expats. What's the biggest social in Singapore outside a pub or bar that we can go to to connect with other folks in Singapore? Is there a favorite or popular local meetup th...

Re: Job searching while still in Canada. Thoughts?

Thanks for the recent responses - also to brian_singapore - I'm glad we're aligned cause I was starting to wonder if there was something about my experience that was off. When you get a better hit rate in your home country than in Singapore - you kinda have to wonder. Your feedback makes total sense...

Re: Job searching while still in Canada. Thoughts?

Thanks for the feedback bgd! That's what i gathered after snooping around here too - best to be on the island before they even engage you seriously. What did you mean by 'IT isn't good here.' Just curious. I'm not a developer so not sure how you meant the comment. Yes - have subject matter skills in...

Re: Fashion Jobs

Are you in Planning and Allocation? I'm the fashion retail business too but work in the IT side.

I just saw a Merchandising post for a local company called Charles and Keith. Very big player in APAC. Check it out. Go to the website - 'Business of Fashion'

Re: Job searching while still in Canada. Thoughts?

Parents live in Spore. :)

I'm planning to be closer to them since they're in their late 70's. Mother is PR. Father is Spore Citizen.

I'm 100% Canadian with no ties to Spore.
