i agree. the HDB agents don't really work for you. they don't care if you find a flat or not, as long as they get a tenant for the flat they are representing. that's why they schedule a lot of tenants to view the property at the same time. there's a wide range in terms of the conditions of the flat....

deefa: thanks for the feedback. we've got no "perishables" and the only stuff that might get damaged are the books, should they get wet (a bit moisture would probably be no prob, given the humidity in singapore). i'm very worried about the chinaware, though. :( kikapo: check out the movers in singap...

Jumping_gene- Where did you end up going? Did you go to Learning Vision? My husband's colleague (prof. from Canada) said he sent his child to the NUS one and they have loved it. Just got a glowing recommendation. we haven't arrived in Singapore yet-- one month to go! i've emailed principal of the N...

You can try inquiring at Learning Vision. Their NUS center (http://www.learningvision.com/centers.a ... +Singapore) is open only to children of NUS staff and is located right within the Kent Vale Staff Housing.

good post, deefa. i',m sure there will be many who will benefit from your feedback. we're in the middle of packing, and for budget reasons, we're going DIY with another company, i.e., we pack, they pick up and ship. we just have a few items, requiring not more than 5 cu.m space, so it's not a big de...

what attitude? i am merely weighing the pros and cons, which is why i asked your opinion, being in singapore the longest, it seems. i have no problem with military service (altho i wished there was the option of doing civil service instead), but it would make me feel tons better if i knew my son cou...

sms, not having arrived in Singapore yet, i find your reply above really interesting as we have also entertained the idea of applying for a PR, should we like living in Singapore. does this mean you advise NOT getting the PR? surely there are benefits as well. looking back, would you say that the co...

i think i got them from amazon for about US$10 a piece back then (almost 3 yrs ago). if you can find some at yahoo auctions or ebay, maybe you can try one first and see if your son likes it.

thanks, Asdracles!

did you have a one-way ticket to singapore? that's what i'm worried about. although i've never had my tickets inspected at the immigration (in singapore and elsewhere), i can imagine that it may pose a problem as return tickets are normally required for entry.

my husband's EP application is underway. we'll be booking our flights shortly and although in theory, we don't need visa to enter singapore, would showing up at changi with a one-way air ticket be a problem? would the in-principle approval settle it?

i agree with sasha... baby einstein might already be too boring for your son. i bought those when my son was 2 and he didn't enjoy it that much.
