Hi lostfish, this time round i don't think it is self-fuling as i think its the foreigner (outside forces) that is pushing the price up; versus the pre 1997 boom where its Singaporean who push it up. Many local is still bleeding that is why the property "boom" is actually not a "boom" but a growing...

So i google the prices of Monaco and top investment cities of the world (favoured by these people), i found out that Monaco's AVERAGE prime real estate is about S$4980 per sq ft, while Singapores current average prime is only about $1500-2000. Thus Singapore property is considered cheap for these p...

Hi lostfish, i too believe that $4000psf is ridiculous, but it will sure make property price go up further, and thus rent too. . i was bringing this up the other day to my colleagues, and i feel perhaps its not as ridiculous as it seems. I saw the other day on the papers, some mega-rich fellow eart...

if instead of holding on to your apartment for the next 7 years (in 2000) u liquidated and invested in the singapore stock index (straits times) u would have made 65% return. so even tho now you are finally in the black, the opportunity cost of sitting on the property means you're really down at le...

sometimes, the risks were unforeseen, like SARS or Sept 11? Whoever thought USA would be attacked so damn easily? or that the recession would last 5-6 years? or that cows could go mad and birds could infect us. or that USA will go to war so often...oh wait, maybe that's was for-seeable  this i...

well, like it or not, its reality. :D landlords will always look for rental returns on top of capital gains. whether they acheive it a not is subject to a whole lot of debate which clearly this thread isnt about. And looking at the market now, 4% is quite the norm. if you dont like paying rent, you ...

On a short term, property is speculative investing in 99% of all cases, just like lost fish explianed happening here in Singapore in the last 10 years or so. 1.) there were almost no property speculators since 1997 to about 2004, save for a short rally sometime in 2000. (in defining speculators, i ...

Housing is a piss poor short term investment because of things like closing costs and fees to agents you have to pay. again, tell that to the people who have earned around $800K - $1mil using about 150K cash and 150k CPF (central provident fund) over the past year. piss poor? compared to what? :o

true true. but u can always negotiate for a shorter lease, maybe 6months to 1year. I think a few weeks in singapore aint going to settle you down. and you may rush into things. but its your call , and it might help if u have friends already here in singapore who can show you around.
