Aussie in Singapore needing new friends!

Hi all, I've recently moved back to Singapore and looking to meet some new friends. I'm an Australian, stay at home mum (my son is 2.5yo) with another due soon. Would love to maybe organise a regular coffee date (with kids somewhere kids can play) or even a bookgroup to meet up at night (sans childr...

Daycare for 2 year old before Tanglin Pre-School

I have recently moved to Singapore and enrolled my child to start pre-school at Tanglin Trust next year (2012). Til then, I'd like him to attend day care a few days a week this year and was wondering if anyone can recommend a day care centre where most of the children go on to attend Tanglin? I just...

Colouring hair while pregnant - hairdresser recommendation?

Can anyone recommend a really good hairdresser to colour my hair whilst pregnant? I'm 38 weeks and want to get some foils before the baby comes... I know its perfectly safe but want to use a hairdresser who is extra careful about not getting any of the dye on the scalp. Many thanks for any recommend...

Recommended graphic design agency or freelancer?

I work for a financial services business group, based here in Singapore, and we are currently looking to engage a new Graphic Design Agency or Freelancer. I've found it incredibly difficult over the past few years to find someone with excellent design, as well as communication, skills. I'd be most a...

Hypnobirthing class - need one more couple to start

Hi, I'm due to give birth here in Singapore in May and want to do the hypnobirthing class at Birth & Beyond, which friends who have done it say is fantastic. However in order for them to start another class, there needs to be at least two couples enrolled. They have one starting in April, which is t...

I'm giving birth there soon and I was really worried about this too. But - it turns out that the people that give the tours always give the wrong information about this! When you get to the hospital you will be taken to the observation room for assessment. You are then admitted and taken to your act...

Seeking apartment rental for 1 month

Hi everyone I'm looking for a 1 BR apartment to rent for my parents for a period of 1 month during May/June of this year. We're having a baby and they are planning to come over for a month to help out. They're Australian, middle aged and would definitely take very good care of the apartment. Alterna...

Sorry I should have mentioned as well - their 10 month waiting period means they only start paying for maternity after 10 months, it doesn't mean you have to wait 10 months to get pregnant. So for example you could get pregnant 3 months after taking out the policy but they wouldn't pay your prenatal...

Hi there, I haven't delivered yet but as far as I know the cost to deliver a baby in Singapore is anywhere from $6-10k. There are options to do it more cheaply (shared hospital rooms for example). Before I got pregnant I looked into every insurance policy under the sun that covered maternity. AXA's ...

Thanks for your reply Megan. I've had the prenatal screening test and they've advised I have an amnio. Believe me would not in a million years be opting to have this!

If anyone has any recommendations I'd be most appreciative. Or if you know of anyone who's had it done here.

thanks.

Ob/gyn recommendation - for amniocentesis

Hi everyone I need to have an amniocentesis done in a few weeks and am very nervous about the procedure as you can imagine! I'm trying to find the best/ most highly recommended OB to do it, as I've heard it is very important to have someone who is very experienced in the procedure. But I'm finding i...

To be honest its incredibly difficult. I've been here 4 months without luck - and I have 5 years experience in marketing in Oz. Definitely wait until you have a job before you move here. Also expect much lower salary than in Oz... but other than that Singapore is a great place to live and we're havi...

Pool

Hi, anyone know if there are any club/hotel like pools here you can visit just for the day? Haven't joined a country club yet but we'd like to find a nice pool with sunlounges to hang out at. Can you pay to use hotel pools?

Thanks!
