As I am not there yet I can not comment on if it is boring or not. I can say that I hope to have fun there and hope that I will find it interesting and somewhat exciting. However the main reason that I am looking forward to moving to SG is its close proximity to the rest of SE Asia. I think it will ...

Thanks seasider. That was informative. Sounds like the area is undergoing a lot of changes. I was disappointed to read that they were closing down some of the clubs and golf courses. I guess by what i've read that if I do end up at seletar, I will have to travel some distance to have fun.

Ulu refers to the fact that Seletar is very villagey (apart from the planes!) and green. Vandy, if you're getting put up in a black and white apartment in one of the few remaining pockets of sanity and character left in Singapore, count yourself very lucky. It may not come with en suite bathrooms o...

The job that I believe I will be getting is at Seletar Airport. Part of the package is that it comes with a shared apartment. I would have my own private bedroom but share the common areas. Supposedly, the apartments are mostly three bedroom but the company only houses two people in them at a time. ...

I agree with others. Skype. Skype. Skype. 8-) I have used Skype in the USA (east coast, midwest and west coast), Spain and Bolivia. I used it to make calls between Spain & Bolivia, between both of those countries and the USA and between the USA and China. I have used it for computer to computer call...

Are there a lot of wifi hot spots around SG where you can use your own laptop or are internet cafes the more common option?

Seletar Airport area

Any info on what the area around Seletar Airport is like? Is it nice? How does it compare cost wise with other areas of SG?

sundaymorningstaple, I would say fear along with superstition and a susceptibility to being controlled. There is also the sense of wanting to belong to a larger group. Whether it be a church, a fraternity or a street gang, people are always willing to give up a certain amount of their own self to be...

Just another example of how religion and its advocates tend to poison and destroy everything it can, even the love of two people.

Actually and unfortunately as well, the recruiter works for the employer so she is not too forthcoming with advice on how much to ask for.

I see what you mean in regards to the licenses. What do you do?

I'm not trying to pick a fight here but I must still disagree with you even though you have lived overseas far more than me. First, it would be hard for me to believe that you have spent 25 years as an expat in a hateful environment. I am sure that the fact you have spent so long over there is that ...

Well, I am not a drummer...

What I am is a big fan of the music you described. ( 70s rock and hard blues ala Cream, Stones, Hendrix, SRV)

When I get to SG, I would like to check you guys out. What is the name of your band and where do you usually play?

I would think that a person would consider how he or she will be treated in another country long before seeking employment there. If you are worried about being treated poorly or stared at because of the way you look, then stay at home. I have spent time in Korea (1 year) and China (2 weeks) ...
