Re: Stocking Up Before Relocating

Um.. just shop online like the locals do. Shopee, Lazada, iHerb, etc will be your good friends. Clothing only need be expensive if you go for expensive brands. A lot of people go to shopping malls to scope things out, then order online. You can get literally everything online nowadays. For other con...

Re: Singapore PR vs Canada PR, which one is better for the long term?

Most Redditors bash Canadian job markets. The unemployment rate is very high right now like 7%. I am a bit worried about not being able to find a job as a new PR. Every LinkedIn job posting has over 100 applicants.. I dont know whether this is because culturally canadians and americans are more ope...

Re: That transient feeling

Perhaps it's because of the fact that we didn't grow up here. Perhaps it is also because of no other family here. Our only family who is truly growing up Singaporean is our daughter. Yes, we have local friends, but for us at least, it's not quite the same as blood ties. That's probably a big part o...

Re: Process for proving ethnicity in Singapore

Thank you all for your comments! I love Jalanjalan's comment. With all respect to the great race of Canadians, did you put this down as a joke (like giving one's religion as "Jedi" or "Pastafarian"), or was the racial assignment made by some official, perhaps automatically? No joke. One doesn't try...

Re: That transient feeling

While I was PR I still had a nagging feeling of "what if they change the rules..?" I was probably overthinking it, but I'm glad to be Singaporean now, cos I couldn't imagine living anywhere else.

Re: LGBTQ+ spouse visa

The government reflects the social norms of the population, as responsible governments should. They also guide changes in law incrementally for sensitive issues, as was explained at length by our former PM in 2022 (see his NDR speech at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iudr2yWCfE4) You can disagree, ...

Queueing really really close together. I'm used to it now and do the same. It was such a struggle during covid to keep distance!

Re: Process for proving ethnicity in Singapore

I think it's pretty flexible, especially for "others" category. My official race on my IC is Canadian.

Re: Singapore PR vs Canada PR, which one is better for the long term?

Well, if you see online, most redditors bash Canada like it's a third-world country. Reddit is super biased against Canada, to be honest. Which one is more competitive, Canada or Singapore in terms of job market? Singapore is way smaller, so I guess it's more competitive? Oh you've been reading red...

Re: 15 years in Singapore!

Interesting comments. My experience has been so different. My neighbours have always been polite, many of them friendly - I've been to housewarmings, attended their kids weddings, looked after each others plants when on vacation, rescued runaway pets, etc. As for the wider neighbourhood, people have...

Re: Singapore PR vs Canada PR, which one is better for the long term?

How do you compare living in Canada Vs Singapore? Which ones are better for the long term? Most Canadians hate Canada, I guess haha. I will probably go to big cities, Toronto, Vancouver, Alberta.. the places where immigrants go.. Why would you think Canadians hate Canada? It's a great place in its ...

Re: 15 years in Singapore!

I wonder if the main hurdle to integrating in Singapore is largely due to most expats not living in HDB. And not just living in the flat but hanging around the neighbourhood, going to the community centre, neighbourhood parks, local shops. I live near an active ageing centre and my goodness.. if the...

Re: Singapore PR vs Canada PR, which one is better for the long term?

Btw, what if I buy the cheapest HDB resale just to keep my PR and move abroad for work? Would this work? Or is it possible that I have an HDB here, but the govt still doesn't renew my REP while I am outside Singapore? You are aware you can't buy a HDB as a single PR right? Regarding Canada, go work...

Re: Anyone got a SG citizen appeal successful outcome?

I don't know of any personally, though I know of ones who applied more than once and eventually got. Each case is totally different so there's no real benefit in comparing.

Re: My father is a PR and I am on a student Pass and his race is different from mine on the cards

Sure sure understood but I’m telling you we had applied PR for me LOL when I was a kid, and I’m sure ICA can see that. Yep, ICA never forgets. That's kind of the point of the comments you received. I second the advice to read past threads on the topic. As for race category, you can't change it, so ...
