When to make the switch from Local Kindy to Int'll Primary?

We've finally come to a decision on which International School to send our son to, but are now at a loss as to when to switch him. The kindergarten he's in is on the local system, meaning the school year ends in December. He is in K2 this year, and he and his little mates have all been together sinc...

Re: Mandarin Immersion Pre-school

My kids are in Chengzhu Mandarin Center, with my daughter in N1 and my son in K2 this year. Fantastic program, only drawback is it's only 3 hours a day (all Mandarin) and located in a shopping mall. But they are looking for a new location to move the growing "Little Pandas" program into, and have it...

Great, thanks for the lead! Did you end up coming out here to Singapore? How are your kids' Chinese doing?

I did a playgroup with them for a couple of terms a couple of years ago. Its a really lovely bunch of people. Located in the East, Siglap\Bedok area. I believe they have been trying to get a full primary class started for a long time but having trouble. They do have a nice little kindergarten though.

I know this post is a year old already but I figured I would revive just in case there's new info to share. We have been struggling to get our kids fluent in Chinese since they were born here (oldest now 5 years old). Julia Gabriel has put together a 100% Mandarin preschool program that is currently...

Spotlight located on the 5th floor of Plaza Singapura (Dhoby Ghaut MRT) has most arts and crafts things you'd be looking for, including fabric. A bit like hobby lobby or jo-ann's (if you're from the US!)

Paul Tseng does do homebirths. My doula had used him for her homebirth. There's at least one more that I've heard of but I don't know his name! But I had Paul Tseng for my first birth and can recommend him whole-heartedly. Parentlink also does assist in homebirths. In fact if you go to their website...

I've tried them all, from Fairprice brand to Huggies, and the best ones that I found were Mamy Poko -- so soft and cottony, really absorbent, all around good diapers. We also ended up using cloth diapers too, if you want recommendation for those too, let me know.

At Thomson they have a tub you can use during labor. You're not supposed to give birth in there but I've heard stories of mums just not getting out in time and having an "accidental" water birth. You might contact the ladies at parentlink (parentlink.org). I hired a doula from them and they are real...

My husband and I moved here in June when I was 23 weeks pregnant and I ended up seeing Dr. Paul Tseng at about 26 weeks. It wasn't too late at all. I think they have you book your hospital stay at around 32 weeks. It seems the medical system here is very last-minute. Many times you can just go in to...

Henna salon recommendations?

Hubby and I just went and walked around Little India for the first time today (been here 2 months already, can't believe we haven't been before now!). I got a henna tattoo on my pregnant belly at one of the many little shops you see there, but it's rather small and I had to stand in the heat to get ...

Just wanted to add my 2cents, even though it's the same as everyone else -- what that agent told you is crap, it's very common to use multiple agents, and a good way to find a good deal :)

Just to update on what's going on with our cabinets, should anyone else benefit from the full story: After my husband wrote a (strongly worded) e-mail to our leasing agent about how re-lining the cabinets was absolutely not enough, the developer and his men came back. This time he sealed all the cor...

Hmm thanks Andy, we've e-mailed our agent again today about this issue and we'll see what he says. If he, the developer, or the landlord's agent again try and tell us they can't replace the cabinets then we'll do as you say and threaten to speak with a lawyer. I'm glad you think we have a good case!...

Yes... was supposed to be brand new so we wouldn't have to deal with any issues like this :(

Thanks for the advice -- I'll update after the next development.
