I would just leave if I were in your shoes. Usually the last month's rental cannot be offset with the deposit as its for protection against damage etc. It's obvious that the landlord is in quite a bit of debt and I think you are pushing your luck just to stay a couple more weeks.

Word has it that they are holding off most PR approvals these days due to the upcoming elections. They dont want to upset the voters by publishing statistics showing a big growth in the number of new residents especially when there is a housing crunch..

I personally found engaging an agent to arrange for viewings within my budget easier than making the calls myself.. after all you do end up paying them a commission regardless of who arranged for the viewing.

You basically were cheated my friend. The agent you dealt with knew right from the start that it was illegal, so if anything, you should try to hold him accountable. I hope you have the contract and the reciepts. But i doubt your contract will be valid as the agent wouldn't have gotten it stamped.

I don't mean to sound pompous, but why do you guys even agree to come over for such a meager amount? I don't think with 2000 bucks a month you will be able to save anything much and have a lot of fun at the same time.

You will need to maintain around 3k in your current account, unlike savings accounts which only require 500bucks.

My two cents is to get a savings account and pay your rent via internet banking or using an ATM like the rest of us
