HBD Flat Life

Some very basic questions here on HBD flats and the quality of life. I've heard you have to be careful renting, but say all goes well. The flat would be for a single person. Would need bath/kitchen. I hear the price is about 1000 to 2000. Assuming I get a semi decent place. What is the living like? ...

Burmese Restaraunts

I'll be in Singapore job hunting in a few days, then travelling to Burma with my girlfriend who's Burmese.

I'd love to try out a Burmese restaraunt or two in Singapore.

Recommendations?

I've lived in Tokyo 4 years and have some recommendations. I don't know how limited you are when you are 5 months pregnant........ but here are the recommendations anyway. If you like Temples and breath taking scenary, try to make it Kyoto. I've never been, but people tell me it is fantastic. If you...

Put it this way. Employers can find Asians from India or the Philippines to do the same job with probably the same experience for 3000-5000 SGD/mo. And most of them will have degrees as well. This is going to be quite a cut especially considering where the US dollar is going at the moment as well. ...

All good info.... thanks....... Week one has consisted in hitting two job boards and applying to many jobs. Also calling recruiters and contacts in Singapore, mixed results there. It's hard to get in touch with many recruiters, and I've gotten what I think is mixed info. After talking to a few recru...

I almost did as well! As Hithnar has indicated, the EPEC would be the alternative way to come here. The entrepass is for those looking to set up a business. Employment Pass Eligibility Certificate - EPEC You would have to have an education from selected universities in order to qualify for th...

Ahh, this kind of answers my last post.

So I would want to go the route of a pre-paid simcard.

Anyone have a estimate on how much a cheap mobile phone that could take a sim card would be?

thx

Cheap Mobile Phone

I need a cheap mobile phone. I will be in and out of Singapore in the next few months and I wouldn't want a contract. How does the mobile phone service work, is it a sim card pay by call proceedure, or do you need a contract? Anyone have any idea how much it would cost to buy a cheap phone, and get ...

I see..... Sounds like the HBD flat wouldn't work as there is a waiting list and the wait is for months. I just need a cheap serviced apartment for a while and soon. I was hoping outside the major area would be cheap prices for these. This is what I did to setup in Thailand, and I got a furnished pl...

Ain't gonna happen. You would have to pay that for a HDB room (bedroom in an HDB Housing Development Board Flat) with a sharing arrangement with the owner and who knows who else... Bout the closest you would be able to do is a backbackers hostel/hotel but the amenities are rough and it would still ...

Long Term Hotel Stay

I'm thinking of moving to Singapore and getting a job there. As of yesterday I've been told I'm being downsized and will be finishing work shortly. My thought was to go to Singapore for a month to get the lay of the land and see what the job prospects are. I'm interseted in knowing where to stay. Wh...

Thanks Sue and Ms P, As you all probably know, it is very hard to job search when you already have a busy job. I have looked around this board for answers, but yet to really dig deep. I have called a couple of recruiting offices, and am also getting contact after contact from people who live here in...
