if you are a typical student, food cost should be abt 5-10 bucks a meal. maybe 500 a month, accom 500. transport 1-200, handphone 1-200

so yeah 2k should more than make do! Just cut out the shopping!

I think you can look to rent a house in the chai chee area as it will be within walking distance. Singapore is a safe place to walk, even late at night so no worries. Living in HDB can also reduce your rental and transport expenses and you can save the rest till you move up the ranks!
