Morals and Realism are two different things.
You can be realistic and still have Morals!
But some people don't like to take responsibility and are just selfish!

I think there is to much worry about the school instead for the boy. Bottom line is that everyone goes through some culture shock. Some take the move to another country easier some struggle more. This boy is just 5 years old, he is old enough to understand that his environment has completely changed...
